I havent, I am sort of waiting until we get some snow that isn't 50% mud lol. if all else fails I will put this one in but I know I can get a better photo if I keep taking pictures. i did find it amusing that 5 of my roosters are all in this one photo

It must have been a Rooster Party!

Did they play chase the snow flake?

Snow boarding Roosters would be so cool.....

I haven't seen them chasing snow flakes, mine flock seems to not stray out of the coop if there is any precipitation in the air. they do play slip 'n' slide on the ice though, i need to get a video of it, they all slip in the same ten foot zone, it must be where they decide to put on "turbo running mode" and instead they end up on their butts or beaks.

I will be hatching Bielefelders and barthuhners. The wife agreed to let me get them because A they are fairly rare and B she thinks they look awesome... Such a relief. A little later I'll be getting sulmtalers... Can't wait the Bielefelder Roos can be 10+ lbs... Those will be some beefy birds!
WHatever gets you in the game of chicken math!!

Finally I got a call form the PO about a Rhodebar rooster I bought. He got lost in transit! Arrived 2 days late!! Poor thing was in a box for four days. Luckily everything is ok. He came with all the NPIP paperwork and all testing paperwork. I still have him in quarantine for about a month to be double sure! He is in good spirits after eating and drinking some water. Been crowing this afternoon.
Wow, that's a long time to be in shipping. Glad he is okay!

I am enlarging my soon-to-be emu pen a little bit larger, ( it's about 115 feet by 100 feet at the moment) So that they will really be able to run!!!

The addiction has begun!

Thought you would think this pic was funny... Worked my rear off today too, and made a huge mess while doing it. Gutted every coop, then took a leaf blower to it to get in every crack. Dumped a pile of Sevin dust in each coop, closed doors and blew the heck out of it with the leaf blower. THEN went back in and doused each coop with DE. Dusted every bird. I am ashamed at what I found on some of my birds vents. I really would encourage everyone to turn your girls upside down and inspect the vent. EVEN if they appear fluffy and beautiful. New shavings. Next Saturday I'll dose with Ivermectin. Please no yelling at me for my over use of chemicals...this case of mites was extreme (I definitely won't be eating the eggs for a looong time). I wish we'd had time to start on tearing down the half torn down dilapidated runs, but the mites took precedence. Next weekend I'll start on tear down/rebuild. Did I mention the 3 inches of mud that had to be tromped through for 5 hours while doing this?? My legs got a workout! I did wear my mask though Sally, lol. I'm exhausted but I feel accomplished, A Good Day!
I learned last year that lice/mites aren't the only thing you need to look for around their vents. Last year I had 2 hens in separate coops that got maggots in their butt. The first had been trimmed and the 2nd never had a poopy butt. I'm wondering if they had something going on internally that attracted the flies. It was totally disgusting.

I would like to join, I can set turkey or chicks eggs (homegrown) but our boys would rather have duck, is anyone selling duck hatching eggs? I'd prefer one of the heritage breeds (welsh harlequin, silver appleyard, magpie, Campbell or Ancona) regardless we'll hatch something! I am looking forward to starting this tradition with our boys (1.5 & 3.5)

Welcome! Hope you find some duck eggs!

Please add me. Black Australorp eggs for sure!

How bout goats?

Now that is just too dang adorable!

Well. Good Mornin' y'all! It's raining here. Bleh. So I will not be putting hoops on the new turkey enclosure today.
Question for those of you who hatch in cartons: How exactly do you cut the cartons? I keep hearing about folks cutting the cartons down but have not been able to figure out what they mean. If anyone could post pics of how it should look I would be most grateful!
I just cut the tops off. I don't cut the bottoms at all. It makes for easier cleanup, and no egg soccer going on in the bator.

We'll be setting a dozen Araucanas/Amerucanas:D
And my daughters' Kindergarten class is setting a dozen mixed chicks.
If you haven't been welcomed yet, then welcome!

That's the breed I'm gonna hatch too. They are my favorite!
That is great! My sister came over the other day with her baby, he is almost 5 months old. She said she had just had him at the Drs for a check up and the Dr asked if he had exposure to animals because it helps with allergies and the immune system. My sister said "Well my sister has a farm down the road". The Dr told her "Well bring the baby there, if she has a cow let him lick the cow" lol. My sister said well she has goats. Dr says "Let him lick the goats" lol. Of course she wasn't serious about licking them, just expressing it would be good for him to have the exposure. The baby does love chickens though he gets mesmerized.
What an amazing Doc!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day! I have five days till my first hatch date! I am so eggcited!
Better get the Brooder ready! Have all the hatching thing ready to go too. Qtips Scissors tweezers a cup for any with leaky navels poly vi sol baby drop without iron fresh batteries for the candler and flaslight Zip ties, toe punch bands Happy hatching!
That's a lot of supplies needed. Now I'm a bit worried I've only ever hatched once and didn't have any of that stuff.
