Ya now I am paranoid that mine will stop turning. Every time I hear one of them play it's song I race in to verify that it is indeed turning. So far so good * fingers crossed*

Yeah, I used to be reassured that all was turning when I heard the song. But, it kept up with the song even when it wasn't working...Right now I'm beginning to wonder about the accuracy of the built in thermo....

Thanks Ron, great guide for classroom projects. I'm toying with the idea myself. Just not sure how I could keep some of the kids from messing around with the eggs in bad ways.

LOOK at all that GREEN!!
Since we're all talking about coffee, I'll share my absolute favorite way to drink it:
12 oz of your favorite coffee
1 Tbs. butter
1 Tbs. coconut oil
1-3 tsp. honey (leave out if you prefer no sweetener in your coffee)
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Throw it all in a blender, and blend for about 20-30 seconds. It will get foamy on top like a cappuccino. Mmmmm.

I would have never thought to get a tetanus shot for a chicken bite. My Buff Orpingtons always bite my fingers and peck at my shoes and clothes. I've had gloves on all winter dealing with them, but come warmer weather, I might end up with a bunch in freezer camp if they persist.
uhhh I think you forgot the rum.

Yer KILLIN me Sally!! I am officially starving for a cheese steak!

While we are waiting for, I believe uphilljill's, new cute babies. These are some of the ones we had a couple of weeks ago:

That too looks like he could be Gardeninmama's Roo's brother...
Quote: I've been known to put them in my bra. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Way back in the olden days, there were a couple of kids in 4-H that did stuff like this to preserve bugs for entomology. I tanned a snake skin using laundry detergent as a paste too.
Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred
Tan me hide when I'm dead
So I tanned his hide when he died Clyde
That's it hangin there on the shed!
All together now...tie me kangaroo down sport

I won a blue ribbon at the Lake County Fair for my preserved lamb's liver...not to be confused EVER with lamb liver preserves

I thought some of the answers were a little odd too but realized that some of the questions were designed for students that were hatching egg for a class in College--you must remember labs right?

The class must have been held in the winter in illinois.

I do believe that explains it

borax? its still used in tanning hides, we use it for tails LOL Deer tails, salt and sometimes borax.... We use the white on the deer tails for bucktails for fishing at the ocean in DE. ;) Stripers love them!
Going from memory, it was a paste using Gain and Borax. I do not recall salt. The snake skin lasted 35 years and would have made it longer IF I had stored it better.

It was a 6ft. Garden snake and won Best of Show for Wild life at the Tehama county fair in 1972.

way tougher than pickling a liver. My brother tanned a gopher hide and used it as a coaster...that was before he was married though.

There are quite a few challenges for hatching in a classroom.

The best method and one that actually had eggs hatch, was to bring in the incubator and set the eggs. Take the incubator home and bring it back in on day 7 for candling and etc. until it is brought back while the chicks are hatching.

Issues:

Noise and vibration
adjusting the settings
heating and cooling turned of at 5 each night and weekends
Drafts from door being opened a lot
Sometimes sunlight from windows

I hope you do run a hatch for your class!
