Well, it looks like I am not going to make it
. The chickens I am waiting on to lay are not ready yet.![]()
Would I still be able to join, even if I am a week later? Just for information etc?
You don't have to count me. I just may need some help.
Hello all.... I got yesterday my 25 fresh hybrid brown hatching eggs, there resting now till saturday. I plan to setup my RCOM 20 this evening and have it run till saturday morning and then set 20+ eggs.
Can I join?
Hopefully I have on easter 15+ brown chicks and 1 or 2 white ones....... altough the odds are the opposite!
LOL!!! I have a GS4 too and that would never have occured to me! What is the name of the app? Do you get a lot of light bleeding around?
The Probe needs to be in the correct place in the incubator. There are diffences in still air and fan forced incubators and putting the probe through a vent hole can change the readings.
Many of us do not read instructions so I downloaded the manual:
Spot Check Digital Incubator Thermometer
Instructions for Use
General
The instrument is specifically designed for use in incubators to give a continuous
readout at an exceptional level of accuracy – in the order of 20 times the accuracy of
general purpose digital thermometers widely available.
The instrument operates over a narrow temperature band, 32 to 43°C. Below and
above this range it will not indicate. It may be damaged by high temperatures. Do not
immerse in boiling water.
The probe is hermetically sealed and will not be damaged by cool water.
However, it should not be exposed to corrosive chemicals or solvents and should only
be cleaned with soapy water or alcohol.
A range switch is provided to allow reading in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Battery life in continuous use is usually about 6 weeks. An off switch is provided to
save battery life when not required.
Forced Draft Incubators
When used in forced draft incubators, the Spot Check incubator thermometer will
give a very accurate indication of temperature which is generally consistent
throughout the incubator. If the probe is inserted through a ventilation hole, be sure
that it is an air exit hole not an air inlet, or the temperature will be influenced by the
cooler incoming air.
Still Air Incubators
Still air incubators (those without circulating fans) usually have a significant
temperature gradient from top to bottom. The recommended operating temperature
will depend on the height at which the thermometer senses the temperature.
Since this is usually at the top of the egg, the recommended temperature is generally
1.5 to 2.0°C higher than for forced draft incubators.
Ensure that the probe of the Spot Check is at the recommended height but not directly
in contact with an egg. Ensure also that it is not close to the incubator wall where the
temperature may be lower.
Battery Replacement
Use a coin to release the battery cover. Replacement battery should be LR-44, S-76,
A76, G13 or equivalent 1.55v button cell. Avoid handling the battery surfaces
What did Brinsea say? It may have been damaged in shipping.I have placed mine in quite a few locations to try and see if the readouts would change. I even used putty to make it so the tip of the sensor probe was about the same height as an egg... For those that tested the spot check by taking your own temp... where did you take your temp?? lol in your armpit like a baby?

Welcome!I get to play also I got 8 maran eggs. In the mail from a byc swap I have 6 dorking eggs available crazy egg chain.
I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope someone is able to give you advice.I'm not going to be able to participate In the hatch-along after all. I'm pretty sure I have a marek's outbreak in my backyard flockI sent one chicken to get a necropsy and am waiting for those results, now a second chicken is limping (my favorite too) I'm very sad and devastated that this is happening. I have never dealt with this virus before and I'm sure all my chicks and young pullets have been exposed to it. I can't imagine hatching knowing I have a virus running rampant. I have 30 6 week old chicks that I'm growing out for someone, I can't possibly sell them now, right? If anyone would has dealt with marek's in their flock who can give me advice pm me? I could really use your help right now. Thanks everyone!![]()

Doesn't sound like a very good day.Just ordered my spot check from Brinsea. Hope this helps my current hatch rate.
I am beginning to suspect that winter in Pennsylvania is never going to end. All waterers frozen solid this morning (again), what was new was a pipe outside of the house burst so water is turned off in the house. We have a stomach bug.... read: no flushing toilets. I'd like to lie on the couch and cry, but time to get to the dentist for my root canal. Oh Joy.
