I saw two eggs wiggle!!!!! I'm pretty sure I was going cross eyed staring at them for so long. And I may or may not have been talking and peeping loudly through the incubator. Lol

With tomorrow being day 18 for me and we are going into lock down, what can I put the eggs in to keep the breeds separated as much as possible. I have 10 EEs, 11 Ameraucanas, and 11 OE, and then a few random. But I want to try to separate the OE, EE, Ameraucana's as much as possible, just for the fact the Ameraucana's are my friends. Numbers might go down after I candle, but most of the OE I can't see into them, so who really knows, same with some of the EEs. I just have a Little Giant Still Air, so not sure what I can really put in there. But starting to worry they are all going to look the same, and I really want my OE's all to myself. HeHe. So even if I just separate the OE, because I know my friend was only planning on taking 4-6 of the Ameraucanas, and maybe a few EEs depending on their color. But I want my OEs to be separate if possible.

Thanks :D
Those little plastic tomato / fruit containers seem to work for people. If you take a look at post 9700 you would see an example of one with happy chicks in it.

I use little baskets i get at the dollar tree they are taped together so 2 for $1 i would say they are 8 inches by 6 inches wide 2 inches high line with paper towel and contains the mess also makes clean up a breeze.

could you use like a tupperwear container? do does it need holes to breath out the sides?

I do have a strawberry plastic container from the store, I could probably put maybe 4-5 eggs in it

I wouldn't use a tuperware because the lack of holes will cause lack of oxygen. The strawberry containers work well.

Just sticking my head in to say good luck to everyone! Hope all your eggs hatch and that you get precisely the pullet/cockerel ratio you are hoping for. For those of us using broodies I pray that your girls are just as good at brooding as they are at setting and that none of your hens vacates the nest before the last egg hatches!

I am heading into a big unknown. My broody girls are in side by side nests in a three nest coop. Both sets of eggs are due to hatch Easter Weekend and both girls are unproven mamas. I tried to put the white one (Dorking x Polish) in a broody box for hatching last night and once in there she refused to cover the eggs again. So I moved her back in with her sisters. Going to try with my little red mutt girl tonight. Hope it goes more smoothly. It would be good to decrease the congestion in there because...

in related news I have a third unproven girl ...the Dorking who just yesterday she would give motherhood a go. She insists on occupying the same nest as one of the other girls and helping them to sit on the eggs. She will get eggs after these two finish up their hatches if she is still into it. Took this pic several weeks back when all she was doing was donating her egg every day. Now she has decided to hang out for a spell
.
I added Dorkings for their broodiness but also so that I would have a few extra white eggs to sell for dying at Easter. 2 of my 4 white egg layers are broody and therefore laying zippidee. So much for planning huh?
