My last chick that hatched is still attached to its egg by the umbilical... will it just detach on its own or do i need to do something. I know with cats and dogs and such you cut and clamp but i dont know with chickens

Well, one of my Hal cockatoos is yelling very loudly from within his shell. It's going to drive me crazy! They are worth a lot, are endangered, and are lunatics...The parents jump in and out of the nest box screaming. I don't know how any cockatoos survive. It really is all I can do to leave the eggs in there instead of putting them in the rcom where I feel a little more in control.
On another note.....
In the incubators, it looks like a few more of my horrible air cell eggs are giving up. Possibly, the only eggs that will work are those nice, normal eggs that I let the broodies have!

Since we are on a roll for Thank You's............

A HUGE Thank You to Sally and Mike for helping me with this Hatch-a-long. I truly could not do it without them! Not to mention the fun of making Sally think she had a Stalker!

A round of applause and thank you to Ron for his time in putting the Daily Digest together every day. It's not easy to keep up with this thread!

Thank You to everyone that donated a prize - all of the contests could not happen without you!

And lastly, thank you to everyone that joins us for this crazy hatch! It is wonderful to have so much hatching experience here! And for those new to hatching, I hope you get all the help you need!
A BIG Thanks and HUG to you, Sally and Mike for all the support and wealth of information you have provided us.

What kind of cockatoos do you have? I've always wanted an umbrella cockatoo. Right now I have a beautiful sun conure.

Although I am not part of the HAL, however just sharing my progress. My chicks are set to hatch on the 23rd of this month.

Brinsea Mini Incubator- Set 7 eggs 6 from Whole Foods and 1 CCL Shipped. All were a bust. I did eggtopsy on them none developed. Since it was my first time, I kept mistaking the shadow of yolk sac with an embryo. Anyways they are all out.

Brinsea Octagon 20

Egg Source- Set-- No Development/Early Quitters- Remaining
Whole Foods 5 5 0
Cream Legbars (shipped) 10 4 6
Bantam Chocolate Wyandottes (Shipped) 9 4 5
Total 24 13 11

Out of the 11 remaining, I saw 7 of them definitely move. Remaining 4 although look fine would stay in the not-sure category for me until candling on Day 18.

P.S. Did I mention that in anticipation of a not so great hatch, I bought myself 4 light Brahma chicks that are adorable. They all look different though. My supplier said that is ok and they will all grow up to have similar feathers. Is that true? Here are a couple of pictures of them:

Oh! Look whom I woke up. Sorry you can go back to bed!

So cute!

Good and very bad news in this hatch.

#1 is healthy and fluffy still in the bator awaiting the brooder transfer

#2 is healthy and drying off although dragging the umbical cord around... don't really know what to do with that

#3 now named Matilda Cooper stopped breathing in the middle of hatching not sure why but she sisnt make it. She is going to be hurried somewhere nice on the property in the morning. R.I.P.

#4 is out and drying also

#5 is procrastinating in the egg still

And 3 eggs still no pips. Is it safe after the rest are hatched and in the brooder to candle them for movement/internal pips? Or should I just let them be?
