I'm hoping to renew our annual Egg Dying Party at the farm this year, and I can't think of a better draw for families than getting to see newborn peeps!

I'm hatching some buff bantam cochin eggs, and Heinz 57 eggs! Can't wait! I'm gonna plan my hatch for *very* early Easter morning to surprise my little sister! :D

awe!!!!! that is so sweet of you!!!!  edit because I am halfwit and thought we were still on the other thread ha ha ha!!  too many tabs not enough space!

I forgot to say thanks!!! This is my first Hatch-a-Long! As a child, I always dreamt about getting little fluffy chicks for Easter. I lived in a neighborhood, and we were moving soon so no chickens for me. I actually never wanted the chickens part. Just the chicks. Sad, but true. After I moved to my new house, I was scared of chickens. My friend had 50+ and they would swarm me when I went in the run. She had rhode island reds with featherless backs and they made scary noises. I thought they'd attack me. She had big mean RIR roos too. After reading a Goosebumps book, I was inspired to hatch eggs for the science fair. Even though I was scared of chickens :lau. I hatched ten and kept 3. Two boys and a girl. The hen is the one in my sig.

Enough of my long, off topic story. I've just always dreamt about having little fuzzy easter chicks, and now I will :love

OH turtles!!! how long are their incubation times!!! how interesting! I told DH I would love to get breeding Bearded Dragons! but Turtles HOW COOL!! DO tell!
and I want to follow that incubation when you do please!! send me a note!
For the eastern box turtle, which is what I have, it's 60-90 days. They stay at a lower temp of 80 degrees, but a MUCH higher humidity of about 75-80%. And UNLIKE chicken eggs, most reptile eggs can NOT be turned at all while they are developing. Even when you dig them up, you have to note which side is up and mark it so you can keep them that way in the incubator. Turning their eggs CAN AND WILL kill the embryo.

The particular female I bred on February 14th laid several eggs last year, but none were fertilized. The male also tried mating with her many times last year, but she wasn't having it. I was very happy to see she allowed him to breed with her - and on Valentine's Day of all days, lol.

I CAN sell the box turtles, but not to ANYONE in the state of Georgia, without a permit. And Georgia residents have to inquire about the permit themselves with the Fish and Game Department (Department of Wildlife Management). I'm not sure about other states. I actually breed them in the state of Georgia as part of a conservation program, which I am legally licensed to do. But the same reason I breed them, is what keeps other people in Georgia from owning them. But as long as your state has no permit required for them, I can sell them to you. And I leave it up to you to do that research, because I just don't really have time to research every state. I'm more interested in the conservation effort here in GA.

Ok so I collect eggies and start on March 29 to incubate.

What other rules are there. My first time, sorry. Don't even know how many eggies am I supposed to incubate if there is a limit.
