I saw same 'bator at our local Fleet Farm yesterday for like $40. I was so tempted to get one to use as a dedicated hatcher, but hubby was with me and I didn't think I could get away with spending the money right now.

Yes, I was going to mention, can find these at the feed stores usually for less.

Tell him it's mandatory to have a dedicated hatcher...yep...that should work

My DH..is such a DH. He almost understands now. He doesn't much mind what I decide to do. I will hear from him once in a while though something like this... What? You are selling Reba? But she is one of the best layers out there! What? Did I even know that he was paying attention? Ha, he's said that more than once now. I like to sell the older hens, to be able to keep a younger one that I hatched. I don't live on a farm..Back Yard Chickens here. Anyway, my husband will even ask me when he sees me with eggs coming from the "egg room"..aww..quitters?

I have a forced air Farm Innovations 'bator and it worked great for me 4 hatches last year. This first hatch this year, not so much (for a variety of reasons, but I think the thermometer i am using is off). I know there are a few things I need to do differently for my next hatch (going in Thursday), first off is go back to locating it in the "office" and not in the kitchen. I think the ambient temp in the kitchen is too variable and the hubby convinced me to put it near a window (yeah, I should know better). I am thinking I want to get a digital thermometer with a probe instead of using a flat thermo on top of the eggs. If I do this, anyone tell me where to position the probe? I might get one with hygro as well.
Good Day sir!

I use the Brinsea Spot check and it is the best there is--designed only for egg hathing and is very accurate. It is quite simple, put the probe into the wiggler toy an set it next to the eggs.

my husband used to be really grumpy whenever I added more chickens/chicks/eggs/incubators, but I just kept going. he doesn't even bat an eye now and we are up to 5 incubators (not including the styrafoam ones) lol...
