He is a Brabanter/Spitzhauben Cross. Truly the best roo ever! Personable, good with children, curious, and medium sized (he doesn't tear up the hens)

He is so very handsome.

Does he have a name?

My UofA and OE Hatch is doing very well. I have 10 eggs left un hatched so that equals 33 hatched. There are more pips in some of the 10 eggs. I will give them until after work and then peal open the reaming eggs.

The Yellow chick is a week old. It is a New heritage Del with a slight cross beak. It is growing and doing well so far.

These are the UofA chicks! Blue color chickens that lay very blue eggs.

I want some of those blue chickens that lay very blue eggs!!! All I get are three kinds of brown and white, and Snoodle lays me small pinky cream color eggs.

The two in the middle are Snoodle's. The top one is "pink" brown (from Goldie), the one on the left is the light brown I get from Chocolate (my darkest brown bird lays me the lightest brown eggs I get lol), and the white one on the bottom is a Leghorn egg.
I put them there to show what color Snoodle's eggs are. This is in sunlight and on a black trampoline mat.
I'd like some more colors. =)

Still very pretty and classic looking.

Not too difficult. I did put in 24 crowns last year and only 2 came up. I got 24 more crowns this year, but you don't eat those, you let them go to fern to establish the roots.

Vetericyn eye spray or Terrimycin eye ointment would work well for an eye injury.

Awwww, adorable! So nice of you to take them in!

I planted them last year, but I believe they were 2 year crowns that I purchased. I was told when they were big enough around, I could eat them.

Well, we live in gopher-ville. If they weren't in a raised bed with wire on the bottom, we wouldn't have anything growing in our garden. I used to put my tomatoes in the ground until I witnessed the darn gophers pulling down 5 foot tall tomato plants. There one day, *poof* gone the next.

My contribution to purple eggs. Welsummer rooster over hatchery BR hen gave me a black sex link that lays this:
What is BR?

I see Sally responded to you.

I have no clue, I don't weigh my eggs.

Glad it's working well!

Welcome!

Wow, that is a really pretty color!

I don't know that ducks lay brown, but duck eggs are usually more waxy looking/feeling than chicken eggs. I've seen white, black, gray duck eggs, but not brown.

So jealous! Can't wait to see it all set up! I'd have to change DH's to get one - he's not THAT supportive of my chicken addiction.

Welcome!

I know, right. I don't like getting up when it's dark.

Last year I did 56 mile hike in 5 days on the Pacific Crest Trail with my son. (high altitude hiking at 8,000 feet) We met many hikers hiking the entire PCT trail, and it was so interesting talking with them. They started at the Mexican border in April and were hoping to end the trail at Canada by October 1st. This years hikers will be starting up soon.

Great build Sally!

Dang, he's pretty!

My cats name is turtle and when she was young and super skinny her nickname was turtlefat. Now she is old and has finally grown into her nickname :)

Cute pic and great username!

He is glorious...I moving toward a flock full of splash, mottled, speckled, laced, barred, cuckoo, blue, black, red, white and silver...by "moving towards" I mostly mean dreaming about what I will hatch when my girls go broody.

Cynthia12 - Congrats!!

I was looking at the calendar last night and chatting with my wife and realized that I'm going to be out of town the last week of the hatch...my wife wasn't pleased when she found out that she might have to do something with the eggs...so my daughter (27) will be taking care of them for lockdown and hatch!

Here's a picture of us that was taken of us approx six years ago: DW, DD#1, Me and DD#2

Beautiful family!!!
It's great that your DD is helping you out! =D
My youngest (4) helps me out with the chickens a lot.

Singing to the chicks, watching the eggs, it's neverending the work that must be done for the chickens when you're a preschooler.
