OK I am joining...This is an attempt to get broody fever running through my pens. I don't own a bator and I won't use the borrowed LG again...I was a wreck last time! Instead I have filled my coops with girls that are supposed to be inclined to broodiness. But what I have learned is that "inclined to broodiness" is sadly no guarantee. I figure if I act as though they will be broody in time for an Easter hatch the universe will send me several broodzillas so... here I am, subscribed and knitting chick booties and receiving blankets.
I am in Northern CA soto all....![]()

If he looked this..it would be just fine and dandy.
Yes I did! That's why I say..pretty nice birds to look at out there. I am finally keeping a cockerel that I hatched. I hope he becomes beautiful..poor thing..at age 2 and a half months, he's all legs and a loong neck. RIR boy. I've seen some pretty ones..hope he gets a lot of black in his tail.
x2!!! =DNo way to read 600+ posts, thank goodness Ron has his summaries! Hope I didn't miss the video of the Emu egg rocking
Hatched 11 Dominiques and a Dominegger (Dom x Easter Egger) over the weekend, as well as a Welsummer and 3 of my own RIR eggs, and a 4th RIR almost done hatching a day late. A woman who bought chicks from me a few weeks ago asked if I would hatch some of her daughter's eggs and split the hatch as payment. She brought me 49 eggs today. Did not expect that many LOL. 2 were quite large and they think they might be the neighbor's duck eggs, but they're brown. As a non-duck owner, I do not know, can/do ducks lay brown eggs? Like, pretty dark brown.
I am shipping some crele Penedesenca eggs Saturday but I may also have some White Empordanesa eggs available if anyone is interested. My Empordanesa lay a warm brown with a pink tint to a darker terra cotta color.
Fertility has been good though with only 5 hens in there I do not get a lot of eggs. 2 roosters and 5 hens in that run. I can also fill in with some Black Penedesenca
chances are good White Empordanesa would be the rarest chicks you ever hatch
