My son named him Spike because the feathers on his head stood up when he was little. He was the ugliest chicken I'd ever seen when my son insisted we get him from a farm we visited. Lol! Joke was on me...he turned into my favorite quickly.

OH he is not ugly, That's the cutest chick ever. Look I have his girlfirends.

Omg! I am hopelessly behind. There are like 50 more pages to read since I last was here.
I'm sorry to say I'm dropping out of the hatch-a-long. I had 2 mysterious deaths & several birds come down sick. I sent the dead ones to USC San Bernardino for necropsy & isolated the sick. Treating the whole flock with tetracycline as a precaution. Sick birds are getting Tylan. I feel awful. :(

I like your packing method, OCD is the way I would go too. These are babies we're talking about here after all!!!!!!

One more thing..that's me..with my first baby in the changed avatar. A girl. She will be 40 this year! What?!

Congrats! She's pretty. I'll be so excited when my oldest is 40. ;)

Well now...you don't look at all like your Avatar. I wish my hair looked that good after leaving the gym...oh, wait, I don't go to the gym. LOVE the goatee!

Sadly, the baby was not mine to keep.

How do I sign up? I'm still getting used to forums. I hope it's not to tricky to figure out how to do contests and stay updated lol
Consider yourself signed up. The links for the contests are in the first post of this thread.

You're a pretty young lady. Why was I thinking you were older? You're a baby! With a cute baby goat. Thanks for all you do on here. Love ya lady bug!
Why thank you. I'm not that young, coming up on 42 this summer. And you are most welcome!

Our hatch is complete, I really need a better candler for our dark eggs!

Last Brahma welcomed to the world

I think I will name these two Peck and Skits watch vid and you will see why!

Cool video. How about Rolly Polly and Punk?

Here is another question for everyone, I am new to hatching (first batch in incubator now). In regards to the green and blue eggs, I have tried candling them and can see nothing, absolutely nothing in them, but if I take an egg out of the fridge that is the same color I can see through it with no problems, any idea of why?
How many days into incubation are they? It can be more difficult to see veining in blue and green eggs. You also need a really bright light.

In the 60's yesterday, in the low 30's today and snowing. Hopefully it will turn to rain. Should, it's warming up to the 40's for today. This is what to expect in Utah..back and forth, until around May.

Oh..saw that the North East is in for it again! Oh my goodness. A lot of snow coming by tonight.
Don't forget to get pictures of your poultry in the snow!

Someone said this to me, so I don't feel bad saying...I thought you were a Grandmom, by the name, lol! Funny how we get things in our heads. Beautiful! I don't think I've ever told you how much I love your Q-Tip avy. Ingenious.

Mom, yes - Grandma, no. I was actually another username when I joined "new2chooks", then when I wasn't new anymore, I was advised to change it. I'm not very creative on usernames.

I've thought about changing my avatar occasionally, but so many people have PM'ed me saying it makes them laugh when they see it.

No egg from my duck this morning....maybe tomorrow.

On another note, I rethought my decision to get a pair of Pilgrim Goslings...I need a trio.

So I contacted the lady whose waiting list I'm on, and she said sure.

So, now I'm even more excited to get them!!

Also, I contacted someone with Call Duck eggs to try and get a few more to toss in with mine for this hatch, so lot's of fun stuff coming up!

It's nice to have something to look forward to!

OK I am joining...This is an attempt to get broody fever running through my pens. I don't own a bator and I won't use the borrowed LG again...I was a wreck last time! Instead I have filled my coops with girls that are supposed to be inclined to broodiness. But what I have learned is that "inclined to broodiness" is sadly no guarantee. I figure if I act as though they will be broody in time for an Easter hatch the universe will send me several broodzillas so... here I am, subscribed and knitting chick booties and receiving blankets.

I am in Northern CA so

to all....
Yay! Welcome!

Count me in! I can hardly wait for the 29th

Welcome!

You don't look like you are interested in sharing that goat!
Unfortunately, I had to give it back.

I want some of those blue chickens that lay very blue eggs!!! All I get are three kinds of brown and white, and Snoodle lays me small pinky cream color eggs.

The two in the middle are Snoodle's. The top one is "pink" brown (from Goldie), the one on the left is the light brown I get from Chocolate (my darkest brown bird lays me the lightest brown eggs I get lol), and the white one on the bottom is a Leghorn egg.
I put them there to show what color Snoodle's eggs are. This is in sunlight and on a black trampoline mat.
I'd like some more colors. =)
You absolutely need blue and green eggs. I could hook you up with green and olive shades.

What is BR?

So time to get cleaned up and catch up on this thread a little bit later.
