So about 25 dozen eggs should cover it. That will only be 5 weeks worth of eggs, but then again I need another 3 dozen for the Easter hatch-a-long.

I think I should look for a paper route too.

What does everyone else sell their extra eggs for? Around here the stores have them for about $3.00/dz.

I sell them for 3 per dozen. I am about to raise the price to 4.

This will be my first hatch ever this year, and I'm doing it with the Easter Hatch-a-Long. I'm very excited, I've got my brooder and am getting everything set up and tested. I have been burying myself in reading, and think I am going to stand a good chance of hatching some eggs. I am using a Styrofoam incubator with egg turner and forced air fan. I'm double and triple checking my heat and humidity with several different measuring devices. I'm getting after it!!

I am hatching chickens from my flock, which is a year old. The rooster is a Welsummer, and I have a whole variety of hens (you can see them in my signature line). I'm most excited to get some offspring from my Light Brahmas. I've read that I will get a Buff Columbian with that cross, and that seems pretty cool to me.

Anyway, awesome to do a hatch-a-long, I'm very excited and counting the days until I will set my eggs!!!

Here are some pictures of my dude and some of the Brahmas I hope to get eggs from:

Woohoo!!

Welcome!

You will sort of get buff columbian from a welsummer over light brahma. I hatched one and she was buff columbian (for the same reason), but sadly, she got out of the run and a predator got her. And my light brahma hasn't been laying. (She's 5 years old) This was her, in the center.

I sell eggs for $3/dozen - when I have "extra" (cartons of a dozen each without customers for more than three days or so) I sell them to a local store-keeper for $2/doz where they get marked up to $3.85 and refrigerated. His profit, but I don't mind. That way my stock is always fresh AND I have generated good will and label recognition within the community. It helps my market, too, as some people will often wait a few days to save 85 cents.... :D

How about:

Are these yours? Beautiful. Mine are getting darker, they are Heritage..so, crossing fingers I get a couple of dark ones..one being the cockerel. The pullet is looking pretty good so far, not sure they will get this dark though. :) I have some RB's I can breed that roo to some day..not as many barrs on the hatchilings, but oh well.
