So, excited. I have been advertising hatching eggs for sale (it's not really a money making venture for me at this point, but the ladies have been laying quite well and I'm finding fertility is over 80% and it's nice when the flock earns it's keep) and got contacted today by someone who lives like 3 hours away who is coming down on Monday for a few dozen hatching eggs!

Usually I get the school teacher, etc who is looking for a dozen or less so I was shocked when he said he would be driving from a rural area to my urban neck of the woods just for hatching eggs. Said he usually just buys chicks, but his kids wanted to try hatching, so when we were on the phone today, he was out hunting down an incubator.

I'm really glad too, cause I was just about to put the last few days collections in the fridge for breakfast. Instead they will stay in the "egg locker" (I've got a vintage 30s GE fridge from my grandma's house in the kitchen that's not plugged in that I put the egg cartons of hatching eggs in to keep them safe).

I am enlarging my soon-to-be emu pen a little bit larger, ( it's about 115 feet by 100 feet at the moment) So that they will really be able to run!!!

to the point I may have to break out the kids nebu I really need to where a mask when doing coops. When does one learn?

Thought you would think this pic was funny... Worked my rear off today too, and made a huge mess while doing it. Gutted every coop, then took a leaf blower to it to get in every crack. Dumped a pile of Sevin dust in each coop, closed doors and blew the heck out of it with the leaf blower. THEN went back in and doused each coop with DE. Dusted every bird. I am ashamed at what I found on some of my birds vents. I really would encourage everyone to turn your girls upside down and inspect the vent. EVEN if they appear fluffy and beautiful. New shavings. Next Saturday I'll dose with Ivermectin. Please no yelling at me for my over use of chemicals...this case of mites was extreme (I definitely won't be eating the eggs for a looong time). I wish we'd had time to start on tearing down the half torn down dilapidated runs, but the mites took precedence. Next weekend I'll start on tear down/rebuild. Did I mention the 3 inches of mud that had to be tromped through for 5 hours while doing this?? My legs got a workout! I did wear my mask though Sally, lol. I'm exhausted but I feel accomplished, A Good Day!

I would like to join, I can set turkey or chicks eggs (homegrown) but our boys would rather have duck, is anyone selling duck hatching eggs? I'd prefer one of the heritage breeds (welsh harlequin, silver appleyard, magpie, Campbell or Ancona) regardless we'll hatch something! I am looking forward to starting this tradition with our boys (1.5 & 3.5) :)

Quote: Where did your snow go? ours is still here! I was slip sliding on it dragging tarps full of shavins down to the dump pile! But I see you have mud like we have where we walk ha ha ha

Well, I'm convinced that as the snow melted every inch of it made it's way through my yard to form a lake around the coops, lol! My boot kept getting vacuum sucked into the mud and coming off of my foot while I was walking. Thank God, no tarps for me to drag. I fill contractor bags and Ray puts them on the back of the 4-Wheeler and dumps them up in the woods.
This all especially sucked because I just cleaned my coops 2 weeks ago because they had gotten wet and soggy inside.

I told Ray, I don't understand how I got this...I clean my coops a lot, I dust a lot...I clean out the nest boxes almost every day!!! WTHeck!
