Good morning every one! I wish I could report an external pip from one of my emu eggs, but alas, I think it's going to be at least tomorrow until he/she comes out....but you never know, It could really happen any min. All I know is at the moment, whoever is under the shell is dead asleep lol. But keep your eye out for the link to see when it hatches. (hopefully in the next 36 hours.) SO, When everyone of you that is hatching beautiful little chicks, and after 14 days you don't think you can stand it another moment for them to hatch, remember crazy corny caleb, and what it must be like to suffer threw more then 50 days of anguish

My DH would have a heart attack if I had a bator that held that much! (and had it constantly full)

I have my first pip. He/She has been chirping periodically throughout the day. I was sitting here on my pc and all of the sudden I heard a louder than usual chirp. Ran over to the incubator and yup, there it was.
Nice!

Is there a minimum amount of eggs that I have to set ?
Nope, set as many as you'd like to.

Quote: I know, me too. I usually fret and try to get it down, but somehow, it always ends up full.

I only candle once, sometime between day 7 - 10, then once more at lockdown
Ditto here.

I have a couple

They move into the hatcher on the 20th. the next big set will be the 21st but I should have room for another few hundred

I will be setting goose turkey chukar chicken and quail for the hatch-along

I bet they keep you busy!

Planning on putting in upto 8 doz eggs to hatch out for easter..
Welcome.

So I am skipping over my orpingtons and rocks and all my pure bred lovelies so I can take a whack at hatching my RSLs new eggs.
I have been getting 2 eggs a day on average.
I asked my husband how many eggs I should collect each day for setting for the hatch a long.
He said "all of them from now until then."
Perhaps he doesn't understand how this works. I have around 150 chicks coming on Friday. We do not live on a farm. I don't think I want to set that many.

How many should I set and when should I collect? Any opinions appreciated. I'm terrible at estimating these things. I always end up hatching wayyy too many and while I love babies, I hate having to feed everyone :p
I say you put in what the hubby suggests. Not all of them will hatch, and of those that do hatch, 50% will be males. So you'll only end up with like 6.

I haven't been on much the past couple days & just skipped a TON of posts (Ron, your Daily Digests are a lifesaver!), but my babies finally have their runs up & finished enough to enjoy the sunshine!!! It's been over 2 months since they have been able to get outside at all. Hoping this will get everyone laying finally...plus it should help my electric bill since I won't have to run lights constantly for them now.

Glad you got them outside!

Welcome little Buff Orp.
Adorable, congrats!

I don't know when I'm NOT incubating something lol. right now i have bredas, welsh harlequin ducks, barnyard mix, cochin, coturnix quail, and Norwegian Jaerhons incubating and I just hatched a lone birchen modern game bantam yesterday.
(oh and if I don't have any chicken eggs incubating there is always snake eggs or crested gecko eggs in the incubator lol)

heres the little MGB- he pipped out the wrong end but did fine just took a little longer than normal.
What a cutie!

Today is lock down for my Isabell Marans! Send some good hatch vibes this way peeps! 19 out of 23 shipped eggs (courtesy of DMRippy) made it!!!
Good luck!

LOVE it!

Got my sugar snap and Snow peas planted last night.... And then SNOW! Maybe it will keep my chooks from digging up the peas. The good news is, one more chance for 'chicken in the snow' pics.
I planted my sugar snap peas yesterday too, but no snow here.

Some olive eggers that hatched yesterday morning. Have 3 eggs left in there today and it's day 22
Congrats!

Please add me to the list I have 25 eggs that will be hatching on that day. I am so eggsited!
Welcome!

I was thinking the same thing about chicken in the snow pics,, then I remembered how cold it is. Really debating whether I want to go stand out there for a photo shoot, lol!

Good morning! Funny story, I was doing some research about our goose.......turns out it is a gander. Lol. And I was wondering why I hadn't gotten any goose eggs yet... Hahhahahaa. So I am looking for a Toulouse goose now to go with our guy. His name went from Sophie to Sojo this morning.

On another note... I am building a cooler bator today to go along with my other bator. Hatching addiction..... No, I have a friend that needs a few eggs incubated and it looks like I will have my bator filled to the max so I needed another one...

If hubby doesn't kill me first...
Oh, there is an awesome video on YouTube about building a cooler bator and how to do the wiring. FYI.. So any of you that still need a bator, there you go. I will try to post a link to it later.

Kids had a 2hr delay today ***? (What the fudge) We have an inch maybe two of snow on the ground...... Schools have turned into pansies here lately.
Google Moose Manor Farms...that's where I'm getting my Pilgrim Goslings from. Her names Dana...if you e-mail her she may have something, or possibly will have something. She replies quickly.

[lock down for me today also.
