My chickens have takencare of the fly population around here!! I tried the parasitic wasps for 2 years-- nada. THen got chickens. Wow, they did the job.Do emus really eat all the flys around and in the pens. It would be worth getting two if they do.
That emoticon completely sets the mood for the whole comment.I think you should set 41, that would be just enough for me to win the contest of guessing total eggs set.

my chicken pens are fine , i dont have problems there. The goose pen is the worst fallowed by the goat pen which isnt as bad about flys. I was thinking since my GP are protecting my goats now i could put the geese with the goats and throw in a pair of emus to eat the flysMy chickens have takencare of the fly population around here!! Emus are not for everyone-- when I asked a friend , she informed me that they are a bit like have a velociraptor!![]()
Oh back in the day I used to collect as far back as 15 days and still got decent hatch rates! But I'm wondering when to collect if Im getting about 2 eggs a day...and I don't know how many I want to set... I think this is when what you all call "chicken math" usually strikes.
You forgot the turkeys & geese...lol All of my birds get locked in the shed at night, chickens & turkeys up top, ducks & geese down below. We have coyotes, fox, raccoons & possum for sure, but I worry more about the neighbors' dogs & cats. I would let them free range if ir weren't for the domestic critters on both sides. And yes, nothing but a gully & woods behind me, a partially cleared lit backed by more woods in front, but neighbors on both sides. We are on a almost 1/2 mile driveway shared by 9 houses. Only 3 are further back the lane than me.No, you haven't been on lately..missed you here..so glad that you got that done. Bet your chickens, ducks..what every you have out and about are happy too! Hopefully they will start laying for you again. Wow, you have a lot of wooded area around you, don't you..what kind of predators do you have to worry about?
