We are breeding by Hen to see what the Hens are throwing. The different groups are separated into tomato containers!

SG Dorkings are in this one. One group of Dorkings and Dels are not in baskets so you can see a yellow fluff ball to the right.

This is the first UofA Blues to hatch. It is a Black one. These are the plastic trays I use for hatching larger numbers of eggs. You can also see the water wiggle with the Brinsea probe. I am hatching at 98.5 today.

This container thing is a great idea. I have a bunch of those strawberry containers with the slit type holes in them. Maybe I'll use those to separate my hatches so I can easily keep my blue eggs and my d'Uccle eggs separate from my backyard mix. I want to be able to have them separate to sell them but hadn't yet determined how I would keep them separate at hatch. I wonder if these containers I have will fit inside my 'bator. Hope they aren't too tall.

The hatching. The weird thing was, that when I started taking pic, with every click click, of my camera, he would try to bust out again!, So after 8 hours of having the same cracks in the egg, I took a pic of it, and he started busting out, and was out in 3 mins!

Today is set day for mallard ducks, goose, turkey and guinea eggs!

mallard (derived) duck,goose, turkey, guinea: 28 days to hatch; set March 22nd
goose: 28 to 32 days to hatch; set March 18th - March 22nd​

I know how rough those broodies can be. This is what happens when you mess with my Heritage Barred Rock when she's broody. She takes out CHUNKS!

Speaking of photos:
what was hatched this morning- 18 coturnix quail. I can see 8 different colors. there are 17 eggs left in the incubator. Also I now have 4 silver lakevelder chicks, but 3 of them have a large pea sized amount of unabsorbed yolk, so I didn't take any photos until that heals up.

Duck and turkey eggs set! (Didn't I say I wasn't going to do turkeys?) Oh well. I had the eggs so I might as well try hatching them... again. I talked to someone yesterday that said he just keeps his bator at 65% humidity the whole time and has great luck hatching turkeys. So I might try that.

Wow! Caleb that it an amazing set of photos- you can see it go through all the classic "stages" of hatch. If you don't mind, I would like to show that to my students. They were asking about the process, and seemed so interested, I'm almost tempted to set up my Easter hatch along at school. Almost.
