That's right I stole 'em- you just keep walking goose! I know they don't count for the hatch a long, but I am still super excited to get some goose eggs! I am up to 6 now.
I am SO jealous! Here we thought we had a goose when in reality we have a gander... :( I have a Toulouse gander looking for a girlfriend. Or some eggs for me to incubate. Anyhow, congrats on getting some goose eggs! :)

Can you have someone take care of it for you?
No. I might have to be the one who stays home because my grandfather usually takes care of my birds when i go on vacation but he is going too. And he has a farm with animals that need to be fed and taking care of and I am the only other person who knows how to run the farm. Looks like no vacation for me. at least i get to hatch some ducks and chicks!

Ah, finally caught up again! Gosh this is a busy thread. Anyway, I was wondering why my incubator day count wasn't changing after 24 hours and the eggs did not seem to be turning.

I had set it to "0" instead of "21"

So, today I reset it to "20" Hopefully, the proper application of coffee will fix my spaciness.

I'm a total slacker.  Looks like I'm gonna run to Safeway or Trader Joes and pick up some fertile eggs this morning.  They should be ready for the 12:00 set time.  :th   I wonder if the duck eggs at Whole Foods are fertile?

What, what?  You can actually buy fertile eggs at the store?  We just got a Trader Joes, about 45 mins from me. I wonder if I should stop by some time just to check it out.

Yup! Hatched some white leghorns from TJ's fertile eggs four years ago, for my first NYD Hatchalong. One roo and three hens. (TJ and his three Josies. TJ died protecting them when he was two, I gave two of the Josies away when I was re-homing roosters and used hens as incentive for folks to start their own flocks ... My last Josie is still with us, providing me with three or four white eggs a week, still.)

So, go for it! Not all Trader Joe's carry fertile eggs, though, mostly just California stores.

I have a question for all you experienced chicken peeps.

I have a lav am & a blue am roos. I put them over barred rock hens. Will the chicks be sexlinked ? If so who has the spot on their head roo or pullet ? And will the barring be present on both sexes when they feather out ?
@cracrzy4chicks

You should get Black Sex linked offspring:

From the sex link thread:

Black Sex-linked

There are two important genes that must be a part of a black sex-linked cross; the E locus allele called extended black (E) and the sex-linked barring gene (B). The Barred Plymouth rock carries both E and B and both genes are used as the female side in commercial black sex linked crosses while the male side of the cross is a Rhode Island Red or a New Hampshire. Birchen birds at times can be used in black sex linked crosses. It is best to leave the use of birchen birds to individuals that have tested the birds for the correct genotype. If birchen birds do not have the correct genotype, the offspring will not be black sex linked.

A few specifics to remember about a black sex-linked cross are:

1) the female must carry sex-linked barring (barred),

2) the male can not carry sex-linked barring (male can not be barred),

3) one of the birds must be homozygous for extended black or carry two extended black genes and

4) neither of the birds can carry dominant white or in other words be a white bird. Some recessive white birds may work on the male side of the cross but you never know if it will work or not work. So I suggest not using white birds.

5). Almost any variety (color) of male ( not including white or barred ) can be used in a black sex linked cross. White birds sometimes carry dominant white and or barring which would not work in a black sex linked cross. White males that do not carry dominant white or barring will work as the male in a black sex linked cross. White males like the white wyandotte or the white plymouth rock will work if they do not carry dominant white or barring.

In a black sex-linked cross, the female will only contribute the barring gene to the male offspring. So the adult males will be black and barred. The female offspring will receive their sex linked trait from the father; in this case, the recessive gene for no barring. So the females will not be barred as adults.

It is also important that the chick down has a black dorsal surface, back and top of the head; this allows for the barring gene to be expressed as a white or cream spot on top of the male chicks head. See Illustration 5. This is why a white bird that carries dominant white can not be used to produce black sex linked chicks. The top of the head would be white and the white spot will not show. Males that carry barring can not be used because the males will produce females chicks with white spots on their heads.

The top of a female chicks head will be a solid black color. See Illustration 6. The chicks in the pictures do not have a white belly like many other black sex linked chicks.

Examples of breeds that can be used for black sex linked crosses.

1 Male carries the blue egg shell gene.
2 Not a good choice may carry barring.
3. Carry the genes for white egg shell.

ya I read that in the "manual" aka 2x3 piece of paper lol. I tried taking my temp and i just sat there like a fool with this dang thing in my armpit while I caught up on the 10 + pages I was behind on, checked it "L"

not sure if it means anything but the display actually reads" F"
L M
If it didn't register a temperature on you, I'd say it's defective.

Oh I forgot no pics It didn't happen.

Those are some BIG eggs!

It is day 22 and it was the first to pip and the others are a lot farther along then this one now. I actually think it started to pip on the wrong side. I'm not sure though because it is an odd shaped egg, but it looks like it piped on the smaller side. I didn't candle it to make sure because I'm scared they will dry out
Leave them be, they will be fine.

Depending on the family (or the vacation), this could be a good thing.

Well right now we have 2 NN hens and Capt Boobert (My Avitar) He is a NN-BLRW cross and my fav in the flock. both personality and appearance. It took 10 days to get 8 NN eggs (or I thought) I would be glad so send some for free if you cover the shipping. The other roos I have are BLRW's and the hens are blue and splash. PM me if you might want to do this. I will post some picks if you are interested.

PS. Thank you for all the welcomes!!!!!!

I do believe we would all enjoy some photos!
