I am in love with them!! is it me or do they look like little bunnies or something!! that color is amazing!! what do they look like as adults?
these are the photos of their adult birds. and yes, they are adorable chicks! unfortunately, i am pretty sure i have 1 female and 5 males haha. one is still damp and might be a girl and i have two in the incubator still so fingers crossed for at least one more girl

oh and i pulled 34 eggs when i candled. not too bad out of 118! though i didn't pull any of the dark ones (about 10?) so some of them may be clears that i can't see.

Im so upset candled remaining 9 eggs five blood rings, and 1 clear.. Left the clear one the other three have good size aircells. So i left them... Out of all of them the clear...i thinkhad the biggest air cell. Wish me luck but i dont think you guys should count me for the easter hatch.

Popping in tonight to say howdy. I'm sorry to hear of doggy difficulties and hatching difficulties! Hope everyone has a better tuesday. I have a painful fever blister on the side of my mouth and I hate them! Gotta get some abreva or something *sighs*
I have my first rehearsal for the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire on this saturday!! NERVOUS lol

Sry to hear that. Did you have a bright enough light? The light I was using wasn't so I got a new one today gonna try it out in a few.

I will not get to candle for another couple of days, got some hatching going on in there and can't open up the incubator just yet. I put 28 in lockdown and know that 3 are already hatched. Hopefully there will be lots more in the morning. The only thing I don't like about the big incubator is not being able to watch them hatch. I used to love to sit for hours watching the hatch process in those Styrofoam ones with the big windows.

Not very hopeful for day ten....

So I put off candling as long as I could(wasn't sure of my abilities being first hatch and all). I'm hooked!!! Made a family affair of it. Showed my son and daughter (6 and 7) pictures of what we were looking for and explained what each was and then we started. Overall I was very happy with results. 39 eggs set pulled 5 clears and pulled 2 blood rings. That leaves me a total of 32. One questionable that I left in. Looks like a blood ring but it moves??(any advice on that one)?? Unfortunately need some practice with how to photograph during candling. Wife couldn't get the camera to cooperate. Kids were crazy excited when they could see the chicks move. Sorry I put it off but happy at the same time. Have a good night all. Time to get ready for work.

I don't have much advise about the egg but I can tell you how I get my pics. Instead of a candler I use a cell light to shine in and behind the egg so that my camera will pick it up. My camera is horrible at low lights so the shine behind the egg lets it take a good photo while still being able to pick up what is going on in the egg.like this

I just finished up candling too...day 10 for my HAL eggs- day 7 for the backyard mix I added a few days later.
Well...drumroll...
out of 12 Speckled Sussex Ebay eggs- 11 look great! Veins and little swimmers inside!
out of 11 Birchen Maran eggs (BYCer) 7 look great and 3 are hard to tell- maybe clear or early quitters...not sure and will leave them in til my better brighter light arrives. 1 was an obvious clear so I took that out and checked it- it was clear.
Out of 15 Rare breeds (BYCer) 5 were wonky, moving aircells, had big bloodrings, or were clear. The rest appear to be growing babies but also have weird aircells...like hourglasses, or figure eights sort of...
With my backyard mixes, the brown eggs look great and the 2 little blue eggs from my old lady Ameraucana were clear. She must be done or not letting the boys near her...

So, I have 36 eggs still growing or not obviously done in my incubator. 8 are gone now.
I still want to get some Blue Marans, Cuckoo Marans, BLRW, and Lavender Ameraucanas...maybe in the next hatch. or maybe I"ll just buy a few chicks if any come available nearby...
