I was hiding eggs with my sweet hubby, hiding baskets so our kitties won't find them and wreak havok during the night...so I missed the mini contest even. We just finished, so me and my kitty are headed to bed. Happy Easter everyone! and in the morning, we can say He is risen indeed!!!

Yeah, I could use some fluffy baby love. Went to let the ladies into the run today and found my sweet little Chipmunk on the floor of the coop dead. I'm not sure what happened, she was just a year old. Everyone else is perfectly fine. I'm wondering if there hadn't been some sort of commotion in the coop at some point and maybe she flew up and hit her head on the bottom of the nest boxes (they can walk underneath them) and broke her neck cause she was laying right near the nest boxes. Almost lost her last summer to my dog (she was just slightly quicker than the dog and managed to get away, leaving the dog with only her tail feathers). Her tail had finally almost grown all the way back in. I will miss her - sweet little Chippy. I could use some hatchlings for some fluff therapy now, if they would just hurry up and get hatched. And here's hoping that some of the eggs slated for hatch on the 30th (which are from Chippy and her sisters) will have her same coloring.

Indeed, a wonderful time to remember what Easter is all about for many of us.

Okay, I have a OE chick that pipped yesterday night, and it was still only half way out around 7pm MST so 2 hours ago. Its head actually has been hanging out of the shell since 2pm today, so at 7pm, I decided to see if I could break some of the shell carefully to see if I could help it out since it only 1/2 way zipped and its head was already out of the shell. As I started to break, its leg was up around its neck and it looked like it was stuck, so I finished unzipping the egg, and just left it to come out on its own. It wiggled out about 10 minutes afterwards, hope that was okay to do, but the poor think is just rolling around the incubator, it can't seem to stand up. So I'm wondering with it being all knotted up and with its legs up around its head making it stuck its legs are not where it they should be or something. Any thoughts?

BTW, I have 29 Chicks out of 43. I have 8 still in the incubator, but no pips in them, but its 21 days today, so I will leave them. Not too bad for my 2nd hatch. 68% Hatch rate, not too bad.
