My black/lavender split ameraucana eggs arrived today. They must've had a rough ride. They were packaged great but 1 was broken and all the air cells are either lose or wiggly :/ going to get at least a couple pullets out of them. What was everyone saying? Incubate without turning for a few days? I'm letting them rest overnight first.

That sucks. Just curious how far the traveled? I'm getting some lavender Am's next week from MI...hope they are treated well.

Cynthia congrats on your leghorn laying again.

Illinois to PA. Good luck with yours. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a couple babies. My husband is going to flip when he sees them. He doesn't know I ordered them lol. Last year he was saying that 17 chickens was too many. This year were up to 55 at the moment and more hatching as we speak. Then theta the hatch a long eggs lol..... plus the turkey eggs in supposed to be getting sometime soon haha!

Quote: I love my Brinsea thermometer - wouldn't trade it for any other thermometer.

My family and friends are past the rolling of the eyes. I really have learned also..who cares and doesn't care..that much. So, I limit my talking about my flock and hatching to those that ..well, let's face it...to those that have a flock and like to hatch too.
OH...I hear my Leghorn announcing an egg right at this moment...for reals..lol...she hasn't laid an egg for a couple of days, was starting to think she was hiding them..caught her in the nest box a bit ago. Going to get me a nice white egg. Free range egg..anyone care that I am excited that she is laying again?

I hear you. My brother says I'm going to be walking a rooster around on a leash..............because I took my birds to a poultry show.

They all think I'm crazy, but are the first in line for my eggs!

I just found this today, I started my eggs on the 17th so I understand if its too late to join. Im putting in these mixed eggs, Light brahma/araucana, araucana/araucana, and one araucana/polish mix. This is my first hatch, from my first chickens, and my rooster Mr. Smith, just last year he was torn apart by a bear, hes healed and in just a few weeks he will be a first time daddy!

Count me in please! I just hatched some so I won't be hatching any more soon but I would like to enter some of the contests :)

So many posts! I have no idea how I'm going to keep up...

Anyways, I candled my eggs for the first time today. Five out of the nine are fertile, with one darker one that is uncertain. I was actually kind of surprised that even that many were fertile, as I had only had my rooster for about a week. Maybe I'll actually get some Easter chicks this year!
