I brought them in, candled them and put them in the incubator, they were cold to the touch. I set the temperature for 90 so they don't have such a jump in temperature so fast, how long should I wait to bump up the temperature to 100? It's a still air incubator. While candling I tossed one and the others have veins but no movement so I'll check on them once their temperature rises
hmm.. im not sure. i just found him laying in the pine right next to the heat plate. broke my heart and felt it being ripped out. i held him and petted him. ive has the worst luck so far these three weeks. lost two chicks, including the serama i was using to start my new lines, and i lost my favorite rooster i hatched in december who looked promising. i havent lost chicks at all and havent lost a bird in 5 years (knock on wood) and its all terrible. i feel like im being beaten until i fall. makes me want to give up on chicks and eggs for a while, but i guess it happens. ive had the worst luck so far this year.did your baby have fluid in it's crop too?
I held mine, massaged it's belly, stroked it's poor little head until it slipped away. I thought it might pull through at one point as it started chirping.
if will power alone would have worked then it would be snoozing with it's siblings right now ready for trip outside tomorrow if it's warm enough.
I am sorry to hear of your loss, I would really like to know what it was so if faced with the same thing again I might be able to help keep the chick alive.
cyber hugs to you bantambury. xx
Having feelings for your animals isn't dumb. Being cold and uncarring is. Sorry to hear that you've been having such rotten luck! Did you bump it up yet...would go ahead and do that. whamp thought of a good idea..go put some other eggs out where she had them, see if she returns by morning. Then watch her, if she stays, you could put them back if you want.I don't know ducks. Do they accept babies at the time they should be hatching? Could you sneak out the babies when they are strong? Ducks??
one of my chicks died tonight.
it went all wobbly and keeled over. it's crop was full of fluid.
when it died I put a syringe into it's crop and it was full of snotty like mucus. any ideas on what it might have been?
poor thing was the smallest chick, I named it "my one" and I felt quite attached to it.
all the other chicks are fine, they have all eaten the same food, lived in the same space etc.
it fell ill then died a couple of hours later.![]()
same here![]()
my one and only serama chick i hatched died last night. i called him 'my precious gem'. i loved him and was so attached to him![]()
