That's why I have a rule at my house: no animals in the house, so I threw out my son- in- law. Haha. Just kidding. No cats and no dogs. I do exceptions on baby chicks though if it is cold, cold. Cold outside and then only for a day or two.
My cat is to lazy to get up on the counter. He basically spends his life sleeping in two spots, and slowly making his way to his feeding room. That is his ambition. Oh wait! He does meow endlessly until he get his kitty treat my husband has him hooked on. So no problems from the cat.

only count the 7 big green ones =)

these are set

And my cat knocked all of these off the counter =...(

Im not figuring out the multi quote very well.

my cat was a feral kitten that my husband found at work one day. He was only 4-5 weeks old at the time. I swear, he's still feral at heart even though he's 7 years old. That cat is CRAZY. Any unattended glasses of water WILL be knocked over and anything on any counter that looks interesting will be pushed off and played with.

How do you guys see through dark eggs? I can't find a flashlight that will get through the greenish blue eggs, let alone the dark brown ones!

Is it too late to join in for the hatch-a-long?

I did not set any eggs, but my broody had other plans. She's been sitting on some eggs since Sat night or Sunday morning. I guess she wanted to join in on the fun....
Whether I "officially" join or not, it looks like I'll be getting chicks for Easter.

Since she's been sitting since Saturday, I think your okay to join :)

Quote: That is awesome! How great for them to have contests with the eggs hatching too. It gives them something to look forward to.

My geese are still in the running!

Candled two days after accidentally misting them with disinfectant cleaner instead of distilled water. The vasculature was still present, and there were no rings of death. They were not happy about being candled, but it was reassuring to watch them protest within their eggs. (Frankly I'd protest too if someone hit me with that much candle power before my eyelids developed!!) They also still smelled fabulous.

So far, these poor eggs spent an overnight half submerged in near freezing melt water, and got deodorized and disinfected. At this point, I am pretty sure that they are not actually geese, but some mutant super-avian species bent on world domination... Which are scheduled to hatch out Easter day...

Yep, that's it. You will never again stress over temperature.

Bad kitty.

The kids got mad at one of our free range peacocks because he flew into a chicken pen and was chasing a rooster...

and the next time I looked outside, he had a dunce hat on! He still had it on this morning and I had to trap him to catch him to take it off!
This should be entered in the Funniest Poultry picture Contest. That is hilarious!

I'm out, broody quit on me and I have no incubator. Maybe next time. I'll be watching everyone else's progress.
Can you get a bator to borrow?

Want it to be Saturday already so I can candle, see what I got! I'm pretty worried about my coolerbator.... the eggs farthest away from the bulbs are at a perfect 99.5 but the ones that are closest (yet still not under them or real close to them) are around the 102-103 range..... I've been rotating them every time I turn eggs so I hope that helps (or didn't make it worse by overcooking all of them)

Just rotate the eggs so they get a chance to be cooler and warmer. You'll likely have a few early hatchers that were on the warm side more often.

It's hard. You pretty much just wait until Day 18 and look for dark inside.

If she's been on eggs since Saturday or Sunday, you are good. Tell us how many eggs she's on so we can record them.

For those of you that have multiple thermometers and are stressing about the temperature differences, get this thermometer and you'll never worry again! The Brinsea Spot Check is accurate to .1 degree. Best thing I ever bought for hatching!
