The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Another pic of my silkie cross (turns out it has five toes; I miscounted).

All 6 of my remaining eggs have external pips, but two are malpositioned. One is the one that pipped first, and the hole has gotten bigger since, so I'm not too worried.

The other one, however, is in a thick-shelled egg and hasn't made much progress beyond the tiniest of tiny cracks. It's getting enough air right? I hope it comes out ok :^(

Yeah. I see what you mean, the article says to use the plug to plug the incubator. I think that is bad advice but I'm not the one to change the article. Maybe a moderator should look into that.

Well he does only plug one of the holes, leaves the other open. DH says it depends on the air exchange rate, and I wonder if he used a foam incubator WITH a fan rather than without one? I'd say that would make a big difference. I have a fan, does yours?

Wondering if my fellow BYC'ers will do me a favor in between checking for hatchlings, pipers and zippers and posting their progresses on here. That would be wishing my mother-in-law a warm welcome. She finally convinced her husband to build her a coop and she is leaving my house with chickens to start her flock. Her avitar is the coop he built for her, it's pretty awesome. I would say without a fan you should absolutely keep BOTH holes open in a foam style incubator.

11 chicks out so far from the incubator, and the Broody BO is working on #3. There is one more zipping, and at least three more pipped from my farm eggs in the incubator, and best of all...THREE of the Wheaten Ameraucana eggs have pipped!!!

Hoping for two pullets and a rooster...
