Anyone care to give me a quick recap of the important points?

For me, out of 17 eggs set, only 4 were fertile.

Not a surprise, but still disappointing. I think perhaps a couple of my roosters got frostbite on more than their combs and wattles this winter.

The good news is that on subsequent settings, the fertility on my SFH is improving. Jury is still out on my BCM, Bresse and Black AM due to lack of room in the incubator for more. However, as I was making a crustless quiche this morning, I did notice that the Black AM egg that I used was fertile, so I am hopeful for the 2 in the incubator now on day 4.

Of the four that were fertile, all made it to lockdown and hatched successfully yesterday and this morning.

Three SFH and one Isbar. Pictures to come....

Happy Easter!

Hatch is going okay so far. I ran into a couple issues that I though you guys might be able to help me with.
I have 6 chicks that hatched out perfectly fine, no issues during zip or anything. However I have atleast 4 (possibly more) that piped and then died in their shell. That is the most I have ever had. I have had one before, but usually I don't get any. What could be the cause of this? Humidity is around 65%-70% temp is between 99-100. Could it possibly be bad genes from the breeder that could cause this? Possibly low temperature during incubation itself?
Anyone else have any ideas?

Shipping stress
ventilation
too high humidity
low incubation temps
flock health.

Try doing a float test. Inspect them carefully first and make sure there are no tiny pips.
As I took one out, I noticed a single, tiny pip, so I put it back & grabbed another one to candle.

It looked like it may have a shadow above the air cell line. (Hard to tell since it's daylight.) No movement that I could see. I popped it back in & will wait.

So far 2 out of the six that went in to lockdown hatched. Will give the other 4 a few more days. These were shipped eggs. You just don't know with shipped eggs.
I've had 100% and 0% with them.
