The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

If you don't have an automatic turner how often do you all turn your eggs manually?

I'm behind, seeing that I have answered a question that was already answered, but oh well..will do this one too just in case.

I, personally, hand turn my eggs three times a day. I put an X on one side..and a 0 on the other, alternating from side to side..3 times a day.

I have mine on their side, some people like egg cartons. See the X? When time to turn, I slowly turn them to the 0. :)

I am in. Not going to miss this one. Hope find some of those cotti colored egges But I cannot remember what chicken lays them. They more brick red colored a friend wants some. Anybody know what they are?

Nice eggs, but I'm partial to welsummers myself.

Here's some of mine. I love wellie eggs, but they are quite difficult to photograph!

It is hard to get the real nice color of the Wellie egg..but these are pretty nice. I love me a Wellie egg too. :)

I've been mulling this over all day, so I figure I might as well post it here.

I'm setting 96 tomorrow. I expect I will have 131 eggs that are 10 days old or less. This hatch that's just finishing had eggs of the same ages, and I got perfectly normal chicks from every egg date. But I want to breed for egg color, so it gives me 2 choices...

  1. Set fresher eggs over color (I will have 96 that are 7 days or fresher)
  2. Set for color (pick all the darkest eggs from the 10 days worth available, then fill the hatch with the freshest lighter brown eggs)

What would you do?
