The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I don't have one of these but I might have to order one. Have you ever seen them at feed stores? And if I don't get one, can eggs hatch just fine in a normal paper egg carton? I'm incubating my batch of eggs with bad air cells upright in normal egg cartons, and I'm wondering if when we go into lockdown can i just turn them in the carton so the lowest portion of the air cell is angled up and them leave them like that? Do the chicks not have any trouble getting out of the upright eggs?

The chicks get out fine from the cartons.

I cut off the top to allow for air flow. I do not cut off the bottoms. Yes, I angle them in the cartons, tilt the top back a bit at the biggest part of the air cell. Like in the picture I posted. Can you see the pips? If you set them correctly, the will pip in that spot.

Those eggs are fertile eggs from whole foods.

Cat thinks I got her a snack. Box of nuggets anyone

. I moved the 3 week olds to the coop.

I think you're right about being "soft". The problem is, he has you trained. You will have to let him cry it out a few nights and only feed him every 4 hours. A schedule is not just good for him, but for you. If you don't get enough sleep your milk will stop producing. I had 5 and they were all on a 4 hour schedule and were on the high end of the weight chart. Nursing too much causes them not to get enough milk oddly enough. And your milk won't produce correctly. Just my 2cents. :)
God bless,

Another blood ring from Jazzy. I am absolutely not hatching her eggs again. I'll be tossing ALL of the bad eggs tomorrow night. I keep hoping that if I give them a little longer they'll do something. Apparently that's not the case.

Here's one of the Andalusian eggs. They all look like this.

Here's a couple of the Silkie eggs. They all look this fantastic!

What's the hardest part oh hatching? Waiting to candle? Or watching your hatched chicks play soccer with your other pipped eggs? Mine are playing soccer right now takes everything I can not to open it and grab the fluff balls.
GETTING AN EMPTY BATOR TO SET MORE???

I just did an early candle.... 11/12 have nice veins!!

Fired my broody hen this morning. I had 8 eggs on day 18 that she was sitting on. Something spooked her. When I looked in this morning, she was sitting on nothing right next to 7 intact eggs and one dead baby that had been pecked out of it's shell. 3 more of the eggs were dead when I float-tested them but 4 were still moving around. I hurriedly put them into my incubator and added water to up the humidity. Hopefully, those 4 will pull through. Loco chicken is now in a rabbit hutch in the backyard to break her broodiness. (my consolation is that, although I spent $40 so that I could have a broody hen to hatch those 8 eggs, I got 23 fertile bantam eggs with the chicken and most of them look like they are developing; if even 1/2 hatch it'll be worth the $40)
