Quote: With Alabama, you can never tell if they're going to do something stupid. Like, continue to allow movement as long as it's private sales and not, say, shows or swaps. As much as it would negatively impact me for the state to do a total ban, I still feel that it would be best to put a hold on all sales, including private, to prevent the spread of AI. Eggs are likely the only thing safe to sell right now.

I couldn't help myself and candled the eggs. Both of the air sacs have drawn down since Day 18, but I didn't see movement in either egg. There are only two, I started with 3 but one quit last week.

Should I be able to see movement?

I HAVE A PIP!!!!!!!!!

So at least one egg survived the high temperatures

I also have a persistent broody I am moving to the broody pen tonight. I'll wait a couple days and see if she handles the move well, then I'll stick some eggs under her. Too early for the HAL, I know, but having a broody is just so much easier than dealing with incubators! I've only ever had 1 other broody, and she was a superb mom. Easiest chicken raising ever!

It is doubtful that you would be able to see movement until they internally pip, and then you will see the little beak stick up and may hear some cheeping. Though you really shouldn't be candling at this point, you may see movement if you lightly tap on the shell with your fingernail. This imitates a hen pecking at the egg and may get the chick to move. Once when I was candling an internally pipped egg, at about the same stage as yours, I put it up to my ear to see if I could hear it peep and it pipped in my ear!

I know I shouldn't be candling at this point. I'm just a horrible combination of impatient and anxious, so I gave in! It makes me feel better to know that I shouldn't have expected any movement, but there was definitely no internal pip yet either. The eggs looked different from one another... one of them has a slightly smaller air cell than the other and the line where the dark met the air cell was sort of wavy looking. It was straighter in the other egg.

I feel like if they don't hatch I'll be too afraid to incubate again because temps and humidity have been on point! Not sure there's much I can do beyond that...

Well, getting my eggs ready for lock down. I think I only have 4 little bantam cochin eggs left to go in. There is one I will candle a few times more, to try and see movement. Not looking good..would be nice to have the 5.
