The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

What gets me is that the eggs off of a farm are richer and you know what the birds eat isn't like what the production hens receive to lay eggs. And besides my small eggs is the stores large eggs my jumbo eggs won't even fit into the jumbo egg cartons lol

For some people some think that store bought eggs are cleaner that farm fresh eggs are poisoned lol

I read a little while back how someones friend was disgusted at her since she ate her chickens egg since they come from chickens. She thought store bought eggs were "different".

Hello everyone. I figured that I would share an update with my numbers. I started with 38 chickens eggs. 4 are EE's and the rest are EE crosses. Whatever hatches out will be sold except for the pure EE's unless they are roosters. I did put a duck egg under a broody bantam hen in the coop. It was being set by 3 different hens. When I went out last weekend nobody was setting it, so I decided to borrow it and candle to check for signs of development. When I picked it up it was cooler to the touch than it should have been. So I made the decision to add it to the chicken eggs that are currently
In the incubator. The poor thing, if it hatches it's going to think that it is a chick. But I did have the intention to have a chicken raise it. lol
After the first candling last Wednesday, I had to remove 4 infertiles. But I still have a good number. I will candle again tonight or tomorrow and see what's happening.

Nothing quite like making your children or grandchildren smile. As a parent or grandparent, that's what it's all about.

Yes, but I also passed along my hatching addiction to the kids! It used to just be me, but now both kids come up with all sorts of reasons why they NEED to hatch more eggs. (Sci fair & 4H are pretty good. It's also their sneaky way of making our chicken numbers grow.) We must actually lock up the incubator & put it in the attic when not in use otherwise eggs happen to find their way into it.
