Did you just set your eggs? Humidity will rise at first when just set. If you set them yesterday, then yes, leave the plugs out, I never ever use them. I do use the dry method. I keep my humidity around mid 20's to mid 30's. I get pretty decent hatches, when the eggs are fertile! Buying off line, can't always be sure they are. Yes, postal handling makes a difference. But, I have so many eggs that don't start. Postal handling? Maybe. Good luck on your getting this humidity set right...like I said, maybe you just need to wait until that moisture is out from the eggs. Oh, and I am one to love the still bator. Holds the temps and humidity great once you get the thing tweeked right. :D

curious you said you have the same incubator as I just picked up right did you manually set the humidity down?

View attachment 1292163 So as I marked my Calendar I happened to notice some thing strange & notable.
Easter and April Fools Day are on the same day.

I've contemplated speckled Sussex again. I had a beautiful girl. Her eggs were pretty small. Do you have them now? Are their eggs a decent size, my girl just laid small eggs. I have a Columbian Plymouth ROCK right now. She's a doll! Her eggs are very small. Thought for sure i would be getting larger eggs by now, she's been laying for over 2 months. :idunnoGuess it doesnt matter the hen, some just lay smaller eggs. Here is a photo of my cute SS. Took my brahmas a year to go from pickle size to large. They mature slow.

I didn't mess with the humidity or temp reading ~ on ~ the bator itself ..if.. you are asking if I set it lower with my own temp/hygro...then no, I kept it at the same for this bator. I keep it the same in all of the different ones I've had..with my own.. I never use the readings on the bators. I've tried a few. :) I am liking the still air for the incubation, and the Gen..1588 for hatching..when I need 2 bators..if not, I just hatch them in a still. Just get yourself a good therm and set it where you want it..ignore that outside reading on the bator.

In all the years since Hurricane Sandy I have never lost power again. Until today, one day after setting eggs. We did not lose power DURING the nor'Easter, but we did today for over an hour and a half. Luckily, my brinsea held temp just fine!

Oh nooooo...so sorry. but, sounds like things held up good with your bator!
