The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I set 8 buff Orpingtons on Saturday. I'm using a brooding hen, and this will be our first hatch ever. So far she seems to be doing well. I'm very excited to see how it turns out.
Watch her--she could stop being broody at any time. Sometimes they do not accept the chicks so be sure to have a backup brooder ready too.

I hope you have a good Broody!

Thanks. She seems to be consistent. She's been trying to set for a while now. I've been pulling the eggs until Saturday, and she was very defensive. If I have to I can probably borrow an incubator, but I thought I would let her try first. She's been good so far so hopefully she'll keep it up and won't reject the chicks. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I will definitely keep an eye on her though. Thanks for the advice.

That is great news!

Broody moms are amazing! I was able to do this once:

Oh, that is adorable. I definitely hope she stays consistent. That will be so amazing to watch her with her babies. I cannot wait!! She is very young, but so far so good. I'll definitely keep posting updates. I have another hen that will sit, but she's not as consistent. Right now the one that is setting is in the brooder. I'm hoping as long as I keep her warm she'll keep up the good work.
