The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

It moves to whichever end is up.
That is good! It does not look dead yet.

If you see blood vessels and a moving embryo it is alive. Blood rings happen after the embryo dies and then the vessels break apart. The white looks off then and often a dark mass appears in the top.

This one shows the blood ring at the top and then breaking up blood vessels. the white is looking off too

We had 2 broody Buff Minorca back at the end of February so on the 28th I stuffed 5 eggs from our mixed flock under each of them. They have been doing fairly well sitting on them, but one egg did get broken. Today they started hatching and the Buffs would have nothing to do with the chicks! I ended up having to put the chicks in a temporary brooder and since I can't trust the Buffs I moved the rest of the eggs into an incubator. So far we have 5 hatched chicks and 1 more pipped egg, all on Day 20!
This is plus the 27 other eggs we have in another incubator that started on March 8th, and 2 with loose air cells upright in the incubator with the recent chick eggs. It might get real chicky here soon!
