The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

:he
We have company for the Holiday weekend. I woke up this morning with my oven room door was open..
That means only one thing.. Grandson! :barnie
There was a couple chicks in the oven hatched but the lid was open kinda and the temp was down to 93* and there are zip holes in several eggs with no activity.
I'm in the middle of damage control this morning. My other ovens were cracked open as well but they are on staggered hatch dates, shouldn't effect them that much.
He is very young so I'm not mad or up set. But I'm locking the door now until tomorrow when they leave.
Bitter sweet Easter morning. Of well..
Oh boy hope they make it. It’s what I fear with my granddaughter but so far with the last three hatches she’s been fine. One hatch left next Sunday.

Thanks!

“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

Well, at the end of day 21, all 12 of my Olive Eggers are out, we have 8 Black Copper Marans and 3 more with pips. One big, gorgeous brown egg just sitting in there without even a wiggle. It seems like the babies from that hen just don’t make it. :/
I did have to help the last Olive Egger out. Poor thing pipped and just sat and sat and sat. Everybody else was out and he was still sitting. I peeled open the egg. He was malpositioned with his elbow under his beak and I’m thinking he wouldn’t have been able to escape at all without help. As soon as he was free he popped out and was running around with the others, I won’t be able to tell which one he was.
Hoping for 23/24...
Photo is a pile of Marans tucked into a shirt, waiting for their leg jewelry.
Nice!
I got 12/14 blue Maran chicks. 2 are splash which is cool.
Sadly I only got 11/54 sulmtaler chicks. I think that there is just something wrong with this rare breed. they never seem to get in position with their skinny eggs. If anyone has hatched these I can use help.
Happy with my marans though.
It can be hard working with rare breeds but very rewarding

Nice photo bomb!

I woke up to the stuck chick still stuck so I helped it out. It's alive but not very active.
On day 15 I dropped a green egg on its end and patched it up. It had been pipped nearly as long as the partial zipped egg so I softened the membrane for it as well last night. It hatched but it's way smaller than its full siblings and has a red thing attached to its butt, looks like a placenta. It's walking around peeping.View attachment 1319794

I found 3 dead in the shell also this morning. :hit
Work on temperature and humidity for the next hatch

My family did good with my incubator yesterday. I took all the kids in and showed them the incubator, explained that the babies would get cold if they opened the lid. They got to see the first chick zip. It was a Nn chick. One of my neices said, "what's that? Is it a monster? It's a monster!"

10 successful hatchers so far. Hoping to see more of my CCL eggs especially. 5 of those hatched, but one girl wasn't strong enough to make it. Got 2 girls and two boys. View attachment 1319874

Kids said they heard peeping from the room bator is in. Nah, I looked this morning no pips, they're not supposed to hatch till tomorrow.
Little sucker must have piped, zipped, and jumped out Lol. And another egg with a pip. Looks like it's today
