The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I stayed up the last two nights, checking humidity, it dropped to 45%, had an upside down pip. Peeled some of the eggshell off. Opened up two suspect eggs(duds). Wrapped a wet paper towel around it, went to sleep @6am. Got up @2pm. I've got eight! One more pipped....think I'll enter some of the contests next time. I love looking at all the cute pics, waiting for the cutest baby fowl to be chosen! Sure need a lil coop for my Marans. The lightest chick hatched from the darkest egg, lol. Maybe I do have a splash! Came from blue ribbon winner parent NPIP certified. They seem strong & healthy. Hoping they are beautiful, too. How do you get your Chicks NPIP certified? Do I have the right Initials?

I've got 13! I lost two, one was upside down pip, and the other died and he was almost completely unzipped. The last one just got out of the egg a few minutes ago. Since they were dark Marans eggs, I couldn't see if they were saddle shaped air cells. The rest were not fertile, sure glad they didn't explode.

Here is some of my Marans -chicks & my heating pad setup with puppy pads. Work long hours, so it's easier to cleanup when I get home. I may have a broody, we'll see if she'll adopt them.

I took the hen out and cleaned her nest, she actually started going crazy outside so we had to bring her back in because she was going crazy, she kept running from her nest to the end of her cage, trampling her eggs, but nothing serious bone were cracked and she wasn’t really trampling, just pacing because she was scared, needless to say she is not going outside until all the chicks are hatched and healthy.
