MId Winter Cleaning house - from top to bottom....hubby is then going to give me a hand with the Chinese incubator. As long as it is rotating eggs and keeping temp, I will be setting my eggs. Fertility rate is low on my Araucana eggs 1 in 8. Weather is CRAZY, I have low visibility & snow up to my knees by the coop and barn. And I have the two juveniles I put in the coop & the neighbors guinea is causing a little disruption in the "nesting" atmosphere. But if I can get a couple more hens I'll be happy! My three Araucanas are laying daily, one standard brahma, and one la bresse mix hen.....so I will have five Araucana eggs, two standard brahma, one bresse mix egg = 8 eggs total to go in the incubator tonight. Unless someone lays an egg later today or I get some shipped eggs-but with the Great Lake Effect snow & Alberta Clipper. I'm wondering if my shipped eggs I tried hatching this winter just got too cold & that's why they didn't hatch. Although, I've heard through the chicken network that there are some that advertise their show birds eggs (but they know they are not fertile & sell them on ebay). I have seen some that advertise their eggs but leave out the word fertile or that they are hatching eggs. So maybe they tricked me with their wording & I ordered some of these....uhg. Why?
I hope my 9 are fertile blue Marans
