The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I weighed all my eggs and candled almost all of them. Many of them seem to have lost too much weight but since this is a trial run and I’ve had a problem with drowning chicks, I’m not going to make any adjustments. I did read that they could lose as much as 25% and too much is better than too little.

I found what look to be blood rings on some, very clear development in others, and infertile eggs. But I did expect that. The problem was the very dark brown eggs. I couldn’t really see anything. Guess I’ll have to wait on those.

I am happy that at least a few of the leghorn eggs are developing as those would give me more blue eggs. Not that I need any more eggs.

You don't need more eggs? You can sell them, for chicken feed, like I do. Maybe you already do. :p Oh, love your avvy. Is that a Harlequin?

Yea but blue eggs are cool!
Keep us updated on the lower humidity test.

Thank you. Yes, she is a WH. One of the first poultry birds I ever got. Wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for those four little ducklings. :love

This is the first time I’ve had enough extra eggs on a regular basis. I just started selling but so far no one I know has wanted any. They have no problem taking some when offered for free so I know they don’t have a problem with unwashed eggs. I’d rather not sell on CL, but I might try in a couple weeks if no one bites.

Do you have extra duck eggs? We have a local market here that would take all extra duck eggs in trade for things in market IF I only had duck eggs. She gets plenty chicken eggs.
Word of mouth gets my chicken eggs sold very quickly but I’ve been selling for about 10 years now. You may find it takes time to develop a customer base but once you do you’ll usually not have enough to sell.
