Can you see anything when you candle?
Were temps a bit too low?

Yeah, I just checked and it's dropped to 98.
When I candled them at lockdown I only saw solid black and the aircell.

I have Barnevelders. They are a wonderful breed.

My sister went to TS to get me some chick feed and other brooding supplies... She came back with more than that though.

I'm still waiting for these chicks to hatch, the first one pipped at like 6 in the morning, is that a long time? He has made no progress sense then.

They hatch at 98 ok so no worries.

wait until day 22 or 23 for that.

I would open up all the eggs though. Sometimes you can find a couple that are still alive even up to day 24.

Somethings to watch for. While moving chicks to brooder I discovered the hatching incubator wasn’t plugged in all the way making it very loose. Any bumping from someone that didn’t know to listen for incubator could have easily unplugged it. Or it could have fallen out on its own. Be sure to check yours.
Also while feeding my last bunch of chicks I did not notice that the larger chunks of starter feed was too large for them. When I saw they were leaving the larger pieces I ground some up for them and they acted like they were starving. In a couple days they didn’t need it ground up. I’m starting this bunch with some ground up as they were from younger hens and eggs were smaller than they should have been.

Congrats on all the new fluff! I'm trying to wait patiently on our first hatch with the 3 survivors. We've lost so many thus far its hard to stay positive. Does it get easier with each hatch or is it always so stressful?!?!
