The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Wow it's been a busy ol' time at the Chickendads then!

My t shirt has been much admired and I'm not sharing my mug!!!!!

Bertha prolapsed on Friday and is now on box rest until the equinox. Hoping she will be able to go with the babies for a bit before they all join the grown up hens.

The babies are 9 weeks old today. Creampuff, the legbar is already putting on her grown up clothes. And Bonus, the buff sussex, is a thug!

Thank you yet again for your stories!!!

Hope it is cooler at Barbara's house than here in Texas (19 straight days of 100+)---Does Barbara have any special "Cool Chick" techniques? Have to hear more about her adventures!

The Wife Swap

Like everyone else, the Chickendads have been busy moving Baby Chickens around to growing pens and cleaning and organizing chicken stuff. Barbara and the other Big Girls have been landscaping the flower bed by the back door. They ate all the hostas and carefully dug out any other plants that interfered with their plans for a black dirt spa. Mrs. Chickendad put netting over the bed earlier in the spring, but after she cleaned up the flower stalks and debris, she was too tired to put the netting back and left it for the next morning. The next day, Chickendad let the girls out and they immediately came to finish the landscaping job they had started. It was a big spa, and all the girls laid on their sides and sunned themselves, framed by the tattered leaves of hostas. The Little White Babies took lessons from the Big Girls and mulched the sidewalk.

Bob is the Man in Charge of the Big Girls now, and Leroy has banished himself to the Honeymoon Hotel. He lives there with Bob’s ex-wife, Marion and Poor Little Frizzie. Poor Little Frizzie has been molting her curly red feathers, so has a naked head and two little “waterspout” feathers sticking up where her tail should be. She looks really pathetic, but dutifully lays her egg every day. Leroy doesn’t bother her much, he has been taking care of Marion. Bob has loved on Marion a lot, and she has a naked back. Leroy misses Barbara, but when he sees her across the yard, she is always accompanied by her new husband, Bob.

Barbara was much too busy with her spa project to pay much attention to either of the boys. Spring was over and all the eggs hatched that were meant to. She was too tired for romance, and Bob, although a handsome fellow, has a pointy butt. Leroy is much softer and cuddlier.

Leroy’s attentions have turned more to his appetite for food than for romance. It is corn season and the Chickendads have lots of it. It is so yummy! The problem was that it rolled around the ground and other chickens would see it and take it from him. Of course, he was also calling “Bucka-bucka-bucka-bucka-bucka” to tell the girls about it.

The other day Mrs Chickendad gave Leroy his own cob of corn and it was right next to the hole Leroy had used to romance Barbara. It rolled right in the hole and stayed there so Leroy could enjoy it all by himself. He got so excited he forgot to “bucka-bucka” and polished off the whole cob of corn. It was very satisfying. He wandered off to find a resting place. Romance is not as much fun on a full stomach, anyway.

Glad to hear that your feathery family are doing well. Tyson has become a big aggressive and has been carried under our arms, around the yard on more than one occasion. Hannah is gorgeous and she takes on the BR girls and has kept her higher status in the group. We love having them.

I can't imagine a whole flock of Barbaras . . . all those divas!

My little granddaughter likes to name the "shickies", but she names them all Tinkerbelle. So we have Tinkerbelle 1, Tinkerbelle 2, Tinkerbelle 3 . . . . etc.
