We have a Barbara now also. She laid all winter, during molt, but now is broody and refused to break. She is now raising 21 guinea keets. Great stupid birds with a BR attitude.

I am so sorry to hear about your BR. MrsChickendad is right about freak accidents. I lost my BR to a puncture wound from my rooster's spur. Never thought I would loose her to a passion accident. We are all feeling your pain.

Can't wait to read about another Barbra adventure.
I have 1 BR 7 week old pullet named Berta that is very brave and curious. This must be a trade mark for the BRs. Berta was found at TSC as the last chick in the bin. She was cheeping so loudly cus she was by herself. Feeling sorry for the wee chick I asked the girl at the register why they had one by itself as their rule was a 6 chick minimum. The girl replied "We did not know she was there until someone heard cheeping from the waterer. She somehow got stuck underneath it and had to be rescued. When we pulled her out she was ok but wet. She has been drying."
Well my sympathy button for this poor chick clicked and before I knew it I had brought her home.

Just so happened that Cotton and Candy were in the brooder as the only 2 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks to hatch from some shipped eggs. At first Cotton did not want Berta near his Candy and chest bumped Berta back. However, Berta showed her fiesty side and promptly pecked him on his head. After a few more rowdy encounters they started to get along. Now the 3 are best buddies.

Berta does tend to wander a bit when exploring, but she always stays in sight of her buddies.

I have finally caught up to Barbara's adventures. I don't have a BR but have been wanting one for a long time. I do have some silly Ameraucana sisters, however.
I'm so sorry that you lost your Barbara, Robin. She must be in the Big Coop in the Sky and she's still having her adventures, too.

Where is Barbara? Is she missing in action?

Barbara's Mom is dealing with having hatched 300+ chicks, and trying to keep them inside the pens. The Silly Ameraucana sisters have left quite a legacy and there are some 50 of their children and step-children freaking out when Mrs. Chickendad even glances at them. The immediate problem is that all that expensive feed that the Chickendads put in one end comes out the other. The Chickendads, being just this side of decrepit, seem to have the endless job of pen cleaning, feeding and watering. However, not to fear. Barbara appears to have some sort of adventure cooking, so she should report in soon.
