The adventures of Barbara (BR)

What cute little ones!! Are they in an aquarium? If so, I NEVER thought about using one for the babies. I was planning on buying one at the store. Now I don't! Thanks!!!!

Loving the Barbara saga..

Glad you are enjoying Barbara's adventures!

Yes, we use an aquarium for the first 1-2 weeks of brooding, depending on how many chicks we have. We got this big one at a garage sale for $5 last summer, complete with fitted top. It works great because the babies can see out (and watch TV!) and they don't seem so wild when they are older. It also is not drafty. Sometimes you can find them on Craig'slist, or post a Wanted: leaky aquarium ad there. I also use disposable bed pads in the bottom; cheaper than paper towels, can cut to fit, absorbs liquids, easy to dispose of, and we haven't had any spraddle legs at all.

Winter is back, so Barbara and Leroy will have to find amusement in the coop. Must be time for hanging a big head of cabbage!

So jealous! I want babies! What little cuties! I use am aquarium too and it worked great. Then moved them to a cracked oval water trough when they got bigger. I also keep them in the house until they were 8 weeks.

I miss them now.
I love Barabra stories! It's like seeing the world through chicken eyes. Keep them coming!

Great! I'll post on Freecycle tonight to see if anyone has one. I used to have a huge aquarium but because it leaked I got rid of it. Kicking myself now!!

Night at the "Spa"

After dark the other night, the Food People went out to work with the chickens. The Food Lady rode her "knee scooter" (it keeps her gimpy ankle up and off the ground) out to the workshop. They set up to give "Brazilian Butt Waxes" to the Little Cochins, although they did it with scissors. The Little Girls and their Chicken Man, Scooter, needed a little help "making connections" so to speak, because of excessive butt fuzziness. Scooter has an excessively manly fuzzy round butt, so the Little Girls hoped that Barbara was not attracted to him. She already had Leroy, for Pete’s sake! The Little Girls thought that Scooter was way more attractive than Leroy. Scooter was cuter . . . even if he did look like he was wearing a long white dress . . . with a hole in the back . . .

The Food People also wanted to make sure that none of the Little Girls and Boys had any extra critters hitching a ride, so they were checked for that. Next, the People checked and "Butt Waxed" the Little Girls who were in with Chuckie, the Other White Cochin. Chuckie has 3 Little Girls (Dusty the Frizzle Splash, Millie the Mille Cochin, and the "‘Blue Orphan’ton" to himself right now, but after a while he will swap places with Scooter in the contest to see who makes the bestest babies.

By this time the Food People were covered in chicken poo and butt fuzz, so they decided to call it a night. Barbara and the Big Chickie Girls would get the critter search another day, and the ISAs and the Black Stars were still looking moulty, so butt trims were neither needed nor wise, unless they wanted to have the Girls' butts freeze off! The Food Lady went in the Big Coop and took a hot shower to complete her "Spa Treatment."
