Surprise!

It was warm and sunny today. Spring was definitely in the air! It was the Wyandottes turn to free range, so the Big Chickie Girls stayed in the pen. The Food People knew that Leroy would try to romance the big Wyandotte girls, and they did not want any more homely babies from Leroy and his Wyandotte affairs.

The Big Girls made several bath holes and took turns having a spa day. Barbara stretched out on the ground and tanned her stripes. Both sides. Leroy kept watch, and also kept an eye on those Wyandotte babes. He was secretly glad he was in the pen. Walter was now in charge of those girls, and Walter was getting bigger and bigger. Leroy was sure Walter must be a turkey.

The Food People were busy moving birds and getting the Sussexes settled into a new outdoor pen. The Sussex chickens had spent all winter in the pen in the garage, so they had never seen grass. It must have tickled their feet because they raised their feet and shook them until they got used to the feel of the grass.

The Older Baby Chickies were in the Growing Up House in the garage. The Younger Baby Chickies were trying to make friends with the Older Chickies, but the Older Chickies didn’t want to mess with kids. There was crowing to learn, treats to beg and games of chase and flutter. The kids just sat in the corner and peeped and whined.

The Older Baby Chickies had a surprise for Mom and Dad, though. They were in a separate little pen with netting over the top so they wouldn’t make the Babies cry and they could play by themselves. When the Food People came to check on them, here is what they found on the floor; where DID it come from?

The Mystery Egg

Consider this:

1. The Older Baby Chickies are 8 weeks old.
2. It is a bantam egg. All the bantams are penned up in breeding cages.
3. There is a net top covering the pen
4. The egg appeared after the netting was put over the pen
5. The egg is too big to fall thru the netting, and probably would not survive the cement floor if it did
6. 5 of the Older Baby Chickies are cockerels, 2 are pullets, including one of the "Love Children". Perhaps the "Love Child" has carried on the family tradition?
7. I checked the little Cochin (daughter of the late Chucky and Dusty) on the dog crate. No way it can be her. The other pullet is the black one near the back, but she is the same age and a Leroy daughter by the . . . ahem. . . . slow white rock bantam.

8 WEEKS!!! Wow super quick! LOL I think you have a terrorist egger!! Trying to scare the new guys!

Must be a Ninja chiken to sneak in behind all the defensive lines and lay a bomb like that! Congrats on raising Ninja chikens!
