I can just see this!!

Airplane wings and running around looking like a broken eggbeater! Those conjure up beautiful images that I really needed after a grueling lab meeting. Thank you!

Anger Management

The Food People were busy taking care of all the new babies that had come via the Honeymoon Hotel. There were wheaten and silver Ameraucana babies, blue laced red Wyandotte babies and bantam Cochin babies. There were no more “Love Children”, the detention had taken care of that. The honeymoon girls were pumping out eggs nearly every day, and both incubators were full of their potential children. The kitchen counter was filling up again, too. Barbara was doing her part to keep the Food People supplied with table eggs, despite the occasional absence of Leroy.

Barbara was confused. Where was Leroy? After the girls were put up for the night, Hot Stuff would appear in the coop to take care of them at night. Then the next night Leroy would appear and Hot Stuff would be gone.

Barbara did not know that Leroy and Hot Stuff are taking anger management classes. It is spring and the boys are not playing well together. Even Walter took out a chunk of Leroy’s wattle through the fence. Leroy and Hot Stuff were alternating time in the “classroom”. Hopefully, their hormones will settle down in a while and everyone can be together again.

Thank you for sharing them with all of us - what a scream! I was actually searching for a thread about bantie roos and standard hens because a friend of ours wants one of our bantie roos and has all standard girls - I will be sharing Leroy's inspiring story with her

Ditto on the anger management classes - I'm loving our cochin bantams chest butting each other - they look like feather dusters when you try to beat the dust out of them, it is just a bit hard to be intimidated!

ALWAYS love reading your latest updates, Mrs. Chickendad!! Hope you are feeling better and the knee becomes more cooperative. I have a friend with RA and it is NOT fun at all-just hearing about some of the treatments she endures makes me ache.

Speckledhen, Barbara's newest namesake is just precious!! And a tightrope walker already! In the first photo I thought she was wearing a ring--how very fashionable and SO Barred Rock! Then I realized it must be a curl of bedding twirled round her lovely, long toe.

The homeliest little chicken does look like he got caught by a very strong tailwind, but he is still darling. His feathers go in so many different directions it almost looks painful! Or itchy!

Thanks so much for keeping the stories coming, Mrs. Chickendad!! They always make me smile and just add a lot of cheer to the day.

Springtime with Barbara

Leroy was looking quite tattered. Walter had removed nearly half of the front part of his wattles through the fence and they wound up on the ground in Walter’s pen like little red trophies. Leroy seemed bewildered by it all, but Barbara did not care. He was still her man chicken. They spent several afternoons gardening, although the prime garden spots have been covered with bird netting to keep Barbara from eating the daffodils. Barbara visited the pen of new babies in the garage and helped spread wood chips all over the garage floor. The babies were not all that interesting to her, especially the little roosters who were crowing “Cock-a-do-do” and dancing for her. She thought they needed singing and dancing lessons. No rooster is as fine as Leroy, even with his wattles laying on the ground.

One day the Person in the Funny Square White Truck brought a package. The Food Lady was touched to find a gift from one of Barbara’s fans. Caroline in Florida made a beautiful tote bag with Barbara’s logo on it. It was a wonderful surprise! Barbara thought it looked like a magic bag and tried to peck at any hidden treats it might have. Thank You, Caroline! A picture will be posted as soon as the camera is located!

Grapes have not been on sale lately, so the girls have been impatient with the offerings. Several people came to the Main Coop to buy eggs, and the girls got all excited and followed them back to their cars. People meant treats! However, the People Who Came did not know that, so the girls were dissapointed. Perhaps there will be a grape sale soon.

I love the stories of barbara and the girls who went to church Cecily, my grand daughters name is Cecelia. I have been away from byc for a couple of months due to arthrites in my hips and back sorry to hear about your loss of your roo, and the surgery I hope all gets better for you we lost a bantam this winter. it really sucks. we got 4 new babies at the feed store this spring. I think you should try and let Leroy and Barbara hatch a couple of eggs I know I would love to have one of their love babies. I have thought of getting a roo maybe to help calm down my girls because Zoe (my br) has gone on a pecking spree some of my girls are bald in spots I do not know what has gotten into them lately. but at least with the warm weather they are able to get out and free range keep the stories coming love hearing about Barbara...hope all is going well with the food people too.

Ouch! Poor Leroy! I guess Barbara figured he loved her through molt so she can love him through his loss of wattle!
