Springtime with Barbara
Leroy was looking quite tattered. Walter had removed nearly half of the front part of his wattles through the fence and they wound up on the ground in Walters pen like little red trophies. Leroy seemed bewildered by it all, but Barbara did not care. He was still her man chicken. They spent several afternoons gardening, although the prime garden spots have been covered with bird netting to keep Barbara from eating the daffodils. Barbara visited the pen of new babies in the garage and helped spread wood chips all over the garage floor. The babies were not all that interesting to her, especially the little roosters who were crowing Cock-a-do-do and dancing for her. She thought they needed singing and dancing lessons. No rooster is as fine as Leroy, even with his wattles laying on the ground.
One day the Person in the Funny Square White Truck brought a package. The Food Lady was touched to find a gift from one of Barbaras fans. Caroline in Florida made a beautiful tote bag with Barbaras logo on it. It was a wonderful surprise! Barbara thought it looked like a magic bag and tried to peck at any hidden treats it might have. Thank You, Caroline! A picture will be posted as soon as the camera is located!
Grapes have not been on sale lately, so the girls have been impatient with the offerings. Several people came to the Main Coop to buy eggs, and the girls got all excited and followed them back to their cars. People meant treats! However, the People Who Came did not know that, so the girls were dissapointed. Perhaps there will be a grape sale soon.
