September with Barbara
Barbara was so happy to see sunshine yesterday. A few weeks ago, it was too hot and she stayed in the coop on the roost holding her wings out to cool off. Then it rained. And rained. Back in the coop for Barbara and the Chickie Girls. Every time they stuck their heads out the pop door, the rain gave them bed head and they spent a lot of time preening their hairdos back in order.
Then it got cold. Barbara didnt mind the cold quite so much, but the other girls wanted to stay inside and inspect the nail heads in the walls in case they might be bugs. Barbara went outside and practiced looking pathetic so that Mrs. Chickendad would bring treats. It worked. Scratch came raining from the sky.
Barbara is suspicious of Bob, her new husband. At first the four Sussex Girls took most of his time. Barbara thought there must be something wrong with them because they were covered in spots, and they kept disappearing. Pretty soon there were only two Sussex Girls in the main flock. Barbara did not know where they went, so she kept an eye squinted on Bob.
Meanwhile, a lot of the Little Chickens had gone to live elsewhere. Some of the Little Cochin Girls went all the way to Massachusetts to live in a Poultry Palace. They were now enjoying the sattelite TV, hot tub, and catered meals. They were delayed a day in their trip, but arrived safely with grapes to spare in the shipping boxes. There were a lot of worried phone calls back and forth trying to find out where the Little Cochin Girls actually were. The Little Girls had taken advantage of the dark, quiet boxes to sleep during their trip and were glad for real food and water at their new home. That airplane food is awful.
Mrs. Chickendads computer went fffffftttttt!! the other day. It is the logic board and they want nearly the price of a new computer to fix it. Chickendad found a similar one on Craigslist for a LOT less, so Mrs. Chickendad is back online, but without Barbaras pictures which are on the other hard drive. When the cables arrive she will be able to illustrate Barbaras adventures again.
