The AMERAUCANA thread

Pics
Thank you! Our custom is to name them after characters of the current show we are watching, Nymeria and Lady are named after the Dire wolves in Game of Thrones. Cersei is the Lanister queen, and Sansa is the sister to John Show, who's Dire wolf's name is Ghost (my cockerel who is being rehomed Saturday)😉
Yup big fan for GOT, mainly the books!

I have F1s for some of my projects out of Dusty. And alot of just plain cool looking birds came from him. Will be getting bands(colored zip ties) on them this weekend. I hope to be done with two pens and down some more birds as well. Going to start selling the pullets that don't fit in with anything I want or that I'm trying for this weekend.

Hey hey everyone! Just realized our chicks are 5 weeks old now!! Have to share some cuteness :)) (And yes, we're fully aware there are EEs in these pics, but the focus isn't on them, it's on the pure bred BBS flock. For space & age reasons (hatched at the same time) they are being kept together until it's time to put them into their own separate runs. All the EEs are brown or solid white, so pretty easy to tell the difference between them & the BBS.) Enjoy!

So here's our little girl Aviva! We hatched her (hoping!) from our original Amercauna flock!! 9 days old, sole hatch out of 10 eggs 😞 I maybe biased, but I am WAY more impressed with her coloring & feather quality than the 11 we just bought from another breeder. Not naming names as I realize I maybe slightly more attached to her as she is too small to go with any of our other flocks so she hangs out with us most of the day.

3 and 4 I don't have individual photos of. So the next ones are groupings of the 3 or 4.

They are molting so tails are not in great shape. Also there has been beard plucking. *sigh*

I think on the LF Silvers #2 is a sure pick for me. I like his comb and his personality. His eyes are the wrong color tho and I'm slightly worried about wing carriage but I think hes molting feathers from the wing and its causing it to look split on one side.

My second choice might be the silver with the little spangles on his tail. Hes a big boy and his comb is also pretty tight. I need to get close ups of him and I'll do that tomorrow or this evening when I can catch him again.

On the Bantams I think the #1 has Wry tail, two of them certainly have P/p for comb. Number 2 and number 4 I believe have the P/p for comb. That middle row is a straight up blade. :lau

You've got some hard choices to make with who to keep amongst the bantams.

That comb on #4 looks way more like a straight comb than a peacomb. Aside from that he looks nice though. His silver shoulder patch is more obvious than the others, he has a nice wing triangle, and he looks like he'll grow a nice tail. I've been told the combs are very hard to fix though. #2's comb is big, but not that extreme, and it still resembles a peacomb somewhat. He looks like he'll be pretty with time, I think. #1 and 3 have nicer combs, but if #1 does have wry tail, he shouldn't be used no matter what, and #3 is non-bearded, which I would think sums up to an annoyance in the breeding pen trying to get back to just bearded birds.

Who amongst the bantams were you considering keeping?

Looking at #2 and #4, maybe #1 if its not wry tail and hes just being lazy. I can fix comb and even tho that comb on #4 has a blade its still P/p as it has the side ridges and is nicely formed right now. Very symmetrical and neat. Number 3 might have had his beard and muffs picked by the other boys but I'm not certain on that. I have to make my decision before tonight as I have someone coming to pick up my extra cockerels and the ones not picked are going.
