The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

category 1 meaning pretty much perfect and category 5 meaning the worst...also found out something i dont know how true it is unless someone from the actual country chimes in...but ayam cemani from europe has the iradecent black sheen (which has blue/green/purple hues to them) and the indonesian ayam cemani doesnt have this trait...ive seen the birds and how they look and they do look completly different...thats for sure...the indonesian cemani is way darker...hands down...with no sheen to it...im trying to get the contact info on the person that knows all this stuff and to talk to him direct...however no luck so far. and they are from the u.s.

I saw the video on you tube and agree the indo cemani has darker feathers

It would be interesting if the birds really have no sheen in Indonesia. I've never seen a black bird with no sheen. Even other black breeds have the sheen, like australorps and marans, and Cayuga ducks. Heck, all wild black birds like crows and ravens also have it. It would be really something to see a black bird that doesn't have it. Personally I like the sheen though and it's one of the reasons this breed is so beautiful to me.

so people should understand that if you legally obtain the bird...it should have a sheen and not perfect per say as compared to the illegally obtained cemani thats matte black in the us...

The only place I've seen that grading is in that video. I think someone said that is Graceful Chicken's DH? I'm not sure about that though. I think Fibro Farms grades them as well, but I thought their grading system was an in-house assessment only.
