The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

Thanks Pyxis. That makes a little more sense. Probably good to get that hen out of a breeding program if she has the leghorn comb anyway. People will do what they want with the birds they get, regardless of what they say. I think that cjwaldon is right that the work of serious breeders will stand the test of time. It's really tough to make any money w chickens, especially if u do everything right. Going into it just out to make a buck is bound to backfire.

Very true, if he's just in in to make a buck he's not going to last long at all and his birds are going to be surpassed by the birds of serious breeders very quickly. I don't think Hatchery Hive has much to worry about.

The chicks from your eggs are doing very well. I found a pet home for the two culls. Meanwhile the two keepers are growing fast and are now living outside with 3 spitzes they hatched with. Here's a pic from last week:
400

This guy's belly fluff is showing some grey but the rest of him is very black. The reflection in the pic makes it look like he's got white on his beak & comb, tho they are black. His brother is more black tho I don't have an updated pic of him. Judging by their combs, I'm guessing they're both boys tho it's still early. We'll see how they grow out. It's been interesting to watch them grow next to the spitzhaubens. The Spitzes were fully feathered at the same time the ACs were just starting to get their real feathers.

My second, 3rd gen, hatch (this time, a FULL Batch) is happening as we speak....

I had one early bird hatch at 20 days...
This first Cemani is WHITE...ALL WHITE with just a bit of black powdering her back...
She is by far the least black genetic freak Ive ever hatched...

Assuming the bird is a female...
She is such a freak... I actually examined the empty egg through the window to see if I accidentally put in ANOTHER egg type.
Nope... It is 100% Cemani...
I might just keep her to see what she turns into...
pictures coming....

In separate Marked batches, I am also hatching out other birds of different types (marans, americanas, orpingtons) to refresh my older egg layers which need to be cycled out.

For research, I can always could toss her in with the rest of my normal replacement egg layers...
Would you guys like for me to do this, to track her here as she grows, so we can all see what the worst cemani ever grows up to look like?

This morning, before I went to work, I had two more pop out...
one is all black but has some white on half its foot (cull city)
The other is all Jet black... no grey butt... all black nails... (woooo hoo, a keeper!)

More news coming once I get home...

Do you breed Ayam Cemanis? Do you want to be involved in the process to get them APA recognized? We are looking for qualified persons to fill key roles. PM me for more information!
