Randy, How much does the Svarts Hona roo weigh you bought on auction a few weeks ago? Is it much larger than the Cemani roos? Is it as nice looking in person as it looked in the pics?
Rob

I haven't weighed him yet, but he is a little bigger than my Ayam Cemani's roosters. I think he is still kind of young and I don't think he has filled out yet. Mine from Ewe Crazy farm took a while to fill out and was a heavier boy than my Cemani's. Svart Hona's for sure are a more dual purpose breed than the Ayam Cemani and lay a lot better, than the Svart Hona, or I should say mine anyway seem to go broody way more often than the Cemani's due.

And Yes he was even better looking than he was in the pictures of him in action.

I heard from DC that the sh get very broody vs the ac. Do you mean the svarts are better layers than cemani?

I'm trying to figure out my focus, since I'm a bit limited on space. Even with 2 chicken coops, a chicken/duck condo and 2 big huge closet door brooder boxes and another chicken/duck er cage in the barn.

This morning was another crowing contest betwixt 3 roos that have had the crow reduction surgery. It was short lived, the nearby traffic is louder than poor Lenny and Boss going at it.

Ayam cemani from my experience are very loud crowers and won't relent. I am still trying to overcome technical challenges such as how to post videos on you tube to link here lol.

My Svart Hona does lay better than my Cemani's, but on the other hand, they go broody more often than my Cemani's.

As far as crowing goes, my Svart Hona's crow a lot louder than my Cemani's with my Svart Hona from GFF being the loudest of them all.

That is good to know about the crowing. I put all my ac, bresse and haffies together and the ac all seem to get along together, the bresse stay separate even though they were raised together since hatching. Is that normal?

The crow reduction surgery only seems to have worked so much. Unless anyone wants my imperfect roo Boss.. he is destined for freezer camp soon

I have been wanting to make Korean black chicken ginsing soup... but I do have a fair bit of money tied up with the crow reduction surgery.

Have you tried the new crow no more collar, it's suppose to keep them from filling the air sack needed to fully crow.
