The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

I have 5 AC chicks. Two are almost 3 months old. The other 3 are 10 days younger. For the life of me, I can’t tell the males from the females. They all seem to have iridescent pointy feathers I would associate with a male. Since their combs don’t turn red, I can’t tell from that! What do I need to be looking for? Anyone hav male/female pics at about 8-12 weeks old?

Post pics of them and I can let you know what I can see... :)
Ok. Here are some photos. And now that I am taking pics, I think I have 3 boys and 2 girls. Let me know what you think.

I'm thinking the top picture is two pullets in the front, cockerel in the back. Second picture pullet in front, cockerel in back. Third picture two pullets and a cockerel that's half off screen. Fourth, pullet in center, two cockerels in back. Last picture cockerel.

What do you think Rav?

X2! :highfive:

Haha! Like I said, now that I actually took pictures, it seems so obvious!

That's usually how it goes, lol... you don't need red combs to tell them apart, they show their gender well once they get to that age... :D

They look really good! Congrats!

Depends on quality... including how they looked at hatch... any white on wing tips, white toes or toenails are culls in my program... as are any with leakage as they grow out... those are all given away or sold cheap as fibro mixes...

I'm considering getting into AC's. They are so beautiful and I like the idea of supporting rare breeds. I'm looking for recommendations of where to get good quality, clean birds. Obviously Green Fire has them. But are there any other lines out there? I've heard of Feather Lovers Farm. Anybody know anything about them?
