The American Paint Silkie

Thanks for the explanation Sonoran, I agree about calling Paints, Paints only if they show spots.

My youngsters are not exactly like the bird you pictured. I am afraid I am so ignorant that I didn't realize there were such a thing as Champagne Silkies, I was just calling mine that for want of a better description.

My camera batteries just died as went to take some pics.....my birds are a clear slightly reddish color all over, non- spotted.
No blotches, just a clear color. They came from the Paint roo and either White or dark Blue hens. Really like some have described as "frosted"

I also have from that mating the red spotted chick. It appears to be spotted??? But not like Three Cedars posted, there is definite white and definite red but if this is called a Paint I don't know. Sure has a red head!!! Maybe with some age?
As soon as the batteries charge I'll get pics and would love to hear your opinion once again.
Thank You,
Cheryl

The one I posted is not my best; his champagne colour is patchy as compared with smooth. Not a recognised colour; I just coined champagne as it seemed a good description of the ones without the white ground colour. Here, this is Chocolate Man, from Deb. His colouring is much smoother.

Chick colouring can change dramatically from hatching until they are in full adult plumage.

Gosh Chocolate man is a cutie!!!

I think I didn't explain what I was talking about very good, my "champagne chicks" are not spotted....they are from the Paint pen but not colored with spots. Just the weird color.
I tried to get pics, it just will not show like it really appears.

Here is the pic from today, to much light and shadow.
I'm sorry I even asked about this.......these are NOT Paints but I'm wondering what they will do when mated with paint or mated to other colors, will they be a headache from now on?

So I decided to get a hands on look at my two red frosts. They remind me much of a red roan paint horse. So I've took to calling them Red Roans.

Anyway I snapped a few pictures of what I saw:

My pullet seems to have a black spot on her right leg.

I did not find any black spots on the cockerel, but did see a slight shading on the wings. Not sure if you can see it on the top part of the wing or not in the pics.

and then I noted the last feather having little dark specks.

and last is a pic showing the red in some patches going down the shaft all the way and then the frosted areas having the all white shafts.

I don't know if you will be able to see very well with these pics, but thought I would try anyway. The more we can look at these colors in depth the better. I know very little about genetics, but I'm more than happy to help try and sort the peices so we can put this puzzle together. Thanks for all your great input and evaluation Sonoran

No u don't ur joking

No I am not! I really don't have any buffs! This is from my paint pen. Paint on paint or paint on blk.
Most of the red/orange color is only on the front of it. The rest is all white.
