The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

@nicalandia, what makes a chick, solid brown, from head to toe, & feather out a chocolate brown?
I know Wheaten effects shank color, by turning it brown sometimes, but this is like more extreme.

Sorry, not the best pictures. I have terrible lighting problems.

I got 3 brown chicks, 2 Solid Brown, 1 Brown Barred.

These are a few of my Chameleon chicks.

Not pictured yet, but Brown Chick #1. Is getting in chocolate brown breast feathers with black speckling.

Brown Chick #2. Is getting bright, Buff/gold breast feathers in with some patterning.

Brown Barred chick looks to be getting in Black Barred Breast feathers.

@nicalandia Hi What kind of ducklings come from a fawn/white runner drake and a white layer duck? Or the same fawn/white runner drake with a silver appleyard duck?
Here is an article about duck genetics:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/mallard-derived-duck-color-genetics-basics.74277/

It looks like the white markings from the fawn & white male will probably appear on all his ducklings with either female.

I'm not sure about the base color. For the white mother, she could be carrying any genes under the white, and that will affect the color of her offspring. For the silver appleyard female, the article might have the right information to figure it out, but it's not something I can work out quickly and easily.

Just received 3 lavender orpington day-old chicks. Supposed to all be pullets.

One is a more pure silvery color than the other two, which have a bit of blonde tinge to the down here and there.

So here is the question - is that slight color variation potentially sex-linked? Or just an individual variation?

I will try to get photos in natural light once everyone is warmed up if that would be helpful. But it is pretty subtle, so not sure how well it will photograph
