The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

I hatched out a few of the blue australorp x buff Orpington. They are all black with orange faces. Is there a chance I will get any blues if I keep hatching or is there something in the makeup of my buff orpingtons that keep them black?

Love this little one! I haven't seen this color before in the chicks.
The dad was darker. I'd love to know what he will look like feathered in?

Maybe slatey? I've had two pheonix chicks hatch out somewhat like that, but neither ended up making it long enough ti feather out. I do have a pheonix male that was a full brother to one of them though that has a slate colored chest though

Thanks! So, umm, what does slatey look like? LOL
A derivative or variant of blue.

I really need to get pictures of all my chicks individually. I have some weird colors but they are all mixing at the moment.

Roosters Silver Spangled Spitzhauben, Golden Duckwing Phoenix, Blue Ameraucana and Lavender Ameraucana.

Hens Lavender Orpingtons, Blue Ameraucana, Silver Spangled Spitzhauben, Silver Duckwing Phoenix, and Golden Duckwing Phoenix.

You should get some blues if you keep trying.

I see some gray-looking chicks in the photos. I would think those are blue. Are they from a different cross than the one you are asking about?

Here's some from when he was younger. But his chest is definitely lighter than the rest of his black feathers, and his brothers don't show the lightness in their black chests

I'm sure there's another word for it, I just think it looks like Slate
